Dragon’s Dogma 2 has its fair share of time-sensitive, situational, and obtuse quests throughout its main story, which again points to the complexity of the quest design and fulfills the developers’ intent of giving players unprecedented freedom to choose their paths. Though this type of development philosophy leads to an immersive experience, some players might still stumble too often for their liking.

One such quest is Home Is Where The Hearth Is, which, although it is not complex, still has the capacity to confuse players who are not 100% invested in the context surrounding the quest. Below is a complete, step-by-step guide on how to finish all the objectives of the quest to reunite with Ulrika.

Offering Bribe to Gantt in Dragon's Dogma 2

As a prerequisite for this quest, players must first head to Melve for a second time after handling business in Vernworth. Upon returning to Melve, players will fight a drake as the Readvent of Calamity quest is initiated. After fending off the dragon, players will need to complete An Unsettling Encounter, which involves finding evidence about Disa’s plot in Minister Allard’s chamber. After finding the letter and showing it to Brant, he will prompt Arisen to return to Melve.

Soon after returning to the gates of Melve, the player and their party will be halted by the guards who inform the Arisen of the inner turmoil in Melve, which is now under the control of a tyrannical regiment of soldiers. The guard will only let the player enter if a bribe of 5000 Gold is offered. Upon doing so, the player can enter Melve and is notified of the start of the quest: Home Is Where The Hearth Is. The players’ pawns will remain outside the gates of Melve for the duration of this quest.

How To Complete Home is Where the Hearth Is

Ian's proposition in Dragon's Dogma 2

After entering Melve, players will notice that there has been a lot of friction between residents of the city and people engaging in hand-to-hand combat in different locations. It is an unpleasant sight to behold, so the player should press on and head to Ulrika’s House, which is also indicated on the map by the quest marker. Head inside and speak with Lennart who will shed more light on how the residents of Melve are kept captive inside their town on the orders of the tyrannical queen regent.

In order to break free from the enemy lines, four swords must first be procured. Thankfully, Lennart hints that these swords are confiscated by the soldiers, and it is up to the player to find their exact location. At this point, the player must make their way back to the entrance of Melve, but they are halted in their tracks by two brothers, Ian and Norbert, near the inn.

The location where the stolen swords are stored is right across from these NPCs, so the player is to accept the task from Ian and Norbert, who offer to distract the guards while the player can sneak into the storeroom. This will only trigger if the Brothers Brave and Timid quest is completed beforehand. Otherwise, the player must find creative ways to sneak past the guard and enter the storeroom. Open all three chests to collect the swords.

Alternatively, players could choose to purchase swords from Vernworth or offer their personal weapons from their own inventory to Lennart, but reclaiming the stolen weapons costs the least effort.

Head back to Lennart in Ulrika’s House and hand over all four swords. After doing this, a small fight ensues outside Ulrika’s House, and the player must fend off the soldiers. Since there are no pawns here to help, the player must fight individually with a little help from Lennart until the soldiers retreat.

It is best to take one soldier at a time in order to avoid taking too much damage or being interrupted by their attacks constantly. The townspeople of Melve will make their way to Harve Village, which will also be the destination for the next objective.

Head to Harve Village after a few days of exploring or resting. Use the quest marker to navigate and speak with Ulrika standing on the dock. She will tell the player to return to her at nightfall, so go to the nearby bench and rest until the night by pressing the Doze Off button.

Return to Ulrika at the dock and speak with her to initiate a cutscene, which marks the end of the quest, as Arisen and Ulrika share a tender moment together.

Home is Where the Hearth Is Quest Rewards

Additionally, players will also receive an item, the Ring of Reassurance , temporarily boosting the Defense of a pawn after the wearer helps them up.
