Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a game that rewards side-tracking and exploration immensely, both from a narrative point of view and with tangible rewards for character progression. This is best done by engaging in NPC quest lines as they provide more context for the main plot and play a key role in an attempt to reinstate Arisen as the rightful ruler of Vermund.

One such quest that players will encounter in Bakbattahl, titled "Dulled Steel, Cold Forge," marks an attempt to restore an ancient powerful sword. Although players cannot keep the sword for themselves, there is some Gold and XP to be acquired. With this guide, Dragon's Dogma 2 players can learn all the steps required to complete the quest and obtain the rewards on offer.

How To Start Dulled Steel, Cold Forge In Dragon's Dogma 2

The only prerequisite to unlocking this quest is to have the "Seat of the Sovran" main quest in Vernworth to be completed, which involves the Arisen offering to either lie to cover up for the young man or expose him. If players complete the quest, follow-up quests will become available, and "Dulled Steel, Cold Forge" is one of them.

Some players have also pointed out that additional quests, including "The Stolen Throne" and "Disa’s Plot," must also be completed prior to unlocking this quest. Since both of these are main quests, players will most likely be completing them anyway.

After completing the aforementioned quests, venture out from Vernworth for a few days and return to the Royal Quarters courtyard in Vernworth Castle during the daytime. On duty will be a guard named Roman, who will halt the player and inform them of an awaiting task for the Arisen given by Captain Brant. Follow the guard to find a more private spot near the fountain to learn the quest details.

The Arisen will be tasked with repairing the ancient Regalia Sword, which now carries the preceding term of "Dulled." According to the in-game lore, this ceremonial blade has long been wielded by the rulers of Vermund and has now been dulled because of constant use and must be restored before being usable. Receiving the Regalia Sword from Roman marks the beginning of the "Dulled Steel, Cold Forge" quest.

How To Complete Dulled Steel, Cold Forge In Dragon's Dogma 2

Brokkr's Smithy in Bakbattahl in Dragon's Dogma 2

After being given the task of finding a way to repair the sword, players can follow their first instinct of taking it to Roderick’s Smithy in Vernworth, but he will casually tell you that the art of fixing such a sword is beyond his capabilities.

This indicates that the sword can only be brought to a special wonder far southwest of Vernworth in Bakbattahl. Thankfully, this is not a time-sensitive quest, so you can go to the other Smithy later. There in the capital of Battahl, players can seek Brokkr’s Smithy and hand the sword over to him, but unfortunately, even the best dwarven blacksmith has now laid down his tools.

Where To Find Glimmercoal

Wait for Brokkr to leave at a moment’s notice and then interact with Sara, who proposes that the player extract a valuable ore from Digger’s Mine to inspire Brokkr into picking up his craft again.

Follow the quest marker and head over to Digger’s Mine, which is located some paces southwest of Bakbattahl. Here, look for glowing green ores called Glimmercoal . These flicker on and off and are best viewed in complete darkness, so make sure to keep the lantern off.

The player is expected to collect 15 Glimmercoal. Each piece of the green ore collected will only net a single Glimmercoal, so the player needs to explore the cavern to find 15 of the spots.

This cave is home to a Grim Ogre boss, which can pose a lot of trouble, so it is recommended that players steer clear of it, at least for this quest. Likewise, it’s best not to fall to the first floor of the cave as there are a dangerous number of Slime enemies, which will slow the player and their party down, making them more susceptible to other threats in the mine. To optimize th quest, focus on acquiring the Glimmercoal and rushing back to the entrance of the cave.

Collecting Glimmercoal in Dragon's Dogma 2

After collecting 15 Glimmercol, head to Brokkr’s Smithy again, where Brokkr again remains unimpressed. Instead of Brokkr, Sara takes the responsibility of repairing the sword into her own hands. Accept the offer and hand the Regalia Sword to Sara to begin the process, which will mark the completion of the "Dulled Steel, Cold Forge" quest.

Dulled Steel, Cold Forge Quest Rewards In Dragon's Dogma 2

Sadly, players are not given the ancient sword itself as it will still need some repair work. However, because of their trouble, completing the quest earns players 12,000 Gold and 2,800 XP. The subsequent quest, "Steeled Resolve, Blazing Forge" will also unlock. This quest will see more work being carried out to restore and refine the Regalia Sword.
