Highlights

  • Dragon's Dogma 2 has risen to the top of Steam charts despite initial technical issues, showing its potential as an RPG franchise.
  • With so many players, new ways to entertain oneself within the game are constantly being found and shared by the Dragon's Dogma 2 community.
  • Unconventional tactics, like throwing live creatures in combat, can be hilarious, with social media user Prizzaa having their pawns play catch using pigs and rabbits.

Dragon's Dogma 2 allows for some truly bizarre gameplay moments, as demonstrated by a video of a player tossing a live pig back-and-forth with their Pawns. Though it initially had a negative reception on launch day, and the technical issues persist in major cities such as Vernworth, Dragon's Dogma 2 has catapulted itself to the top of the Steam chart with a high number of concurrent players seemingly enjoying the game despite its shortcomings. It is Capcom's biggest launch to date on the platform, which bodes well for Dragon Dogma's future as an RPG franchise.

Though the developers of Dragon's Dogma 2 issued a statement on Steam to address the game's technical problems, and promised that a save game feature for multiple characters is on the way, its rating scores have been steadily rising across all three platforms. This implies that, despite some issues, there is plenty of fun to be found in Dragon's Dogma 2 and its moment-to-moment gameplay. Its complex character creator, unique vocations, immersive areas, and an addictive exploration loop have all contributed to the game's rising popularity, but it could be argued that its earnest charm is its biggest strength.

Dragon's Dogma 2 embraces moments of levity when it comes to emergent gameplay, such as teaching the Main Pawn to jump down a cliff by landing face-first onto their stomach. Similarly, the Main Pawn in Dragon's Dogma 2 can be taught to toss rocks, barrels, and even enemies in combat. The latter is rather hilariously showcased by Prizzaa on Twitter, who shared video footage of their Arisen playing a game of catch with her Pawns using a live pig (and even a rabbit) instead of a ball.

How to Use Throw to Gain an Advantage in Dragon's Dogma 2

While tossing live creatures can be a fun pastime in Dragon's Dogma 2, throwing plays a major role in the game's combat. Players are certainly encouraged to rely on the vocation skill set, but sometimes unconventional tactics can turn the tide of an unfavorable battle. As explained in a side quest when reaching Melve in Dragon's Dogma 2, tossing an explosive barrel or a poison onto a pack of saurians can be lethal, and will save players the trouble of fighting an entire pack at full health.

However, enemies in Dragon's Dogma 2 will employ the same tactics that are at the player's disposal, and they will often find themselves being doused with oil or lit on fire by a group of goblins throwing bottles at the Arisen. Teamwork and sound strategy are the key to victory in Capcom's latest release, as the game even allows Dragon's Dogma 2 players to destroy a bridge. That being said, whenever the Arisen and their Pawn aren't fighting monsters in the wilderness, there's no harm in indulging in a game of catch.
