Table of contents

Like most action-RPGs, Dragon's Dogma 2 features a wide variety of quests and quest-types. From fetch quests to follow-quests, players will encounter them all. What makes Dragon's Dogma 2 different, however, is its ability to add depth to those quests that would be relegated to filler-status in other games. What's more, this is common throughout the game, with much of the so-called 'side-content' enhancing the game-world considerably.

'A Beggar's Tale' exemplifies this idea perfectly. This early-game quest finds players following a beggar throughout his day, trying to get insight into how he is able to spend his nights drinking his fill. The quest offers very little in the way of hand-holding, leaving the player with only the most basic information. While this can result in a very rewarding experience, for some players, it may come off as tedious to others. This guide will show players exactly where they need to go to complete 'A Beggar's Tale' as quickly as possible.

Dragon's Dogma 2 is everything fans could want from a Dragon's Dogma sequel, but that also means it has a few rough edges.

How to Start A Beggar's Tale in Dragon's Dogma 2

DD2-Beggars-Tale-Start

'A Beggar's Tale' is available after reaching Vernworth, the capital of Vermund. At the center of the Merchant Quarter, in central Vernworth, players will find a fountain in the shape of a headless dragon and its killer.

DD2-Vernworth-Map

At this fountain, during daylight hours, players will find a beggar shouting out stories in the hopes of getting donations. Upon speaking to him, players can donate 100 gold, though this seems to have no effect. After standing and listening to his story, another listener will pull you aside and remark on how it's possible the beggar seems to make so much money. This action initiates the quest, which will then be found in the quest section of the menu.

Where Does the Beggar Go in Dragon's Dogma 2

How to Follow Albert in A Beggar's Tale:

'A Beggar's Tale' has three possible outcomes, and which outcome you get will depend on one important factor. But first, players must follow the beggar as he makes his way around the city. This may sound straightforward, but it can be fairly tricky, as the beggar does not move at all throughout most of the day.

  • Daylight Hours: The beggar will spend the entire day telling stories in front of the fountain. He will only move as the sun begins to go down.
  • Stop 1 (Night): The beggar walks from the fountain into the slums, and stops at Waller's Tavern. There he will announce he is buying a round, and offer some affectionate words to Celina, a beastren woman. This woman is important, and can play a role in the quest's ending.
  • Stop 2 (Night): The beggar leaves the tavern after a short wait. From there, he will walk up to a house in the city, and slam the door shut before you can follow him in. After a brief wait, he will exit the house - do not follow from this point, instead, head inside the house and grab the 'Beggar's Garb.' This will satisfy the current quest objective.

Who Do I Give the Beggar's Garb To?

DD2-Beggar-Hilda

Once players have the beggar's clothes, there will be three possible outcomes. There is very little information players can use to make this decision, making it seem innocuous. In reality, it is anything but, as one of the choices can have dire consequences for multiple people involved.

Option 1: Albert, the Beggar:

The first choice, and least disruptive, is to simply give the garb back to Albert, the beggar's actual name. It turns out that he is actually a noble, living at Baldwin's Estate. He can be found at the estate not long after getting the clothes, and then, after a couple of days, he will be found outside the same house where the Beggar's Garb is found. Returning the garb to him will net 5000 gold, and the mission is complete.

Option 2: Albert's Wife:

The second option is to return the garb to Albert's wife. She is found at Baldwin's Estate. She will ask the player to come back after a couple of days. Upon returning, she will inform the player that Albert now has a real job, and she will award the player onyx x2. This will be the end of the mission.

Option 3: Celina, Albert's Mistress:

The final option, and by far the most disruptive, is to return the clothes to Celina at the tavern in the slums. She will be found there at night, as she was when Albert would frequent it, and she will not take the news well. Starting the morning after giving her the clothes, players can visit the house where the garb was found, to discover that Celina has killed Albert and herself. Somehow, this horrifying act earns you 3000 gold and a Noonbloom . This will also end the mission.

If players would like to avoid the entire process of following the beggar, it is possible to simply wait for Albert to reach the house that the Beggar's Garb is found in. Once the sun sets, it's not a long wait. It is possible to wait for Albert, collect the garb, and then return the garb to Albert in a very short period of time.
