2022's E3-but-not-E3 season has been packed full of events and game announcements, but one fanbase has remained patient through it all. Dragon's Dogma fans waited patiently through PlayStation and Xbox's big game showcases with no announcement. They waited through Capcom's own event as Resident Evil was showcased extensively, but no Dragon's Dogma. They then waited patiently through Dragon's Dogma's own 10th-anniversary event, the last scheduled event for the time being. And they were rewarded for their patience.Dragon's Dogma 2 has officially been announced. It's the sequel to 2012's oddest action RPG, made by the original game director Hideaki Itsuno. It's unclear why Capcom chose to do the announcement in a separate event that likely drew less overall attention, but the opportunity did give Itsuno time to thank fans for their continued support over the past decade.RELATED: Dragon's Dogma Presentation Happening Later This WeekDetails regarding Dragon's Dogma 2 are unfortunately thin. The announcement was reserved for the end of the 10th-anniversary event and all that was shown of the game was its logo. There was no trailer, no gameplay, no concept art, or any sort of tease regarding what would be included in the game. Following the event, however, there was a confirmation that Dragon's Dogma 2 will be built on Capcom's RE Engine, the engine used for all the recent new and rebooted Resident Evil games. Suffice to say, Dragon's Dogma 2 will look significantly better than the original game.

While Capcom wasn't able to share any information about Dragon's Dogma 2 itself, it did want to take the opportunity to encourage players to try out the original Dragon's Dogma if they haven't already. With that in mind, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen is going on sale for what modern platforms it's available on, including PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. As an example price, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen is listed for $4.79 on Steam and will remain discounted through June 23.

All Capcom could offer in terms of promises regarding future news on Dragon's Dogma 2 is a request for fans to follow the series on social media. Interestingly, the Dragon's Dogma Twitter account still contains information regarding Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen and nothing about Dragon's Dogma 2 yet.

The lack of information regarding Dragon's Dogma 2 indicates that it may be some time before the game's release date. While the Capcom leaks of 2020 suggested that Dragon's Dogma 2 could be arriving sooner rather than later, even 2023 may be optimistic at this point in time. Dragon's Dogma fans have been patient so far; another year of waiting won't be too much more painful.

Dragon's Dogma 2 is currently in development.
