Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince gives fans of the franchise a new look into the world of Monster-taming as Psaro, a prince of Monsters. As they collect Monsters and build their army, players will be challenged to train their Monsters and build up their traits and skills.

Traits and skills are inherited or assigned to Monsters in DQM: The Dark Prince. Players can unlock specific attacks, buffs, or stat boosts by enhancing traits or skills, and the only way to do this is by distributing Talent Points.

What Are Talent Points in DQM: The Dark Prince?

Talent Points unlock all special attack, healing, and stat-buffing actions that Monsters can use in battles. Each Monster can have up to 999 Talent Points at one time that can be distributed in multiple places.

When scouted, most Monsters start with one skill and one trait Talent. Skill Talents consist of fighting strategies and focus on healing, damage, or status-changing actions. Trait Talents increase stats such as Wisdom or Defense and boost MP and HP.

Talent Points strengthen Talents by unlocking new skills or traits as players distribute them. Each action requires a certain amount of Talent Points to open, but they all stack once learned.

How to Earn Talent Points

Monsters will earn Talent Points as they hit certain levels, starting at level three. Most levels award nine Talent Points but can reach 15 once Monsters are level 20 or higher.

Players must win battles to level up their Monsters. All Monsters in the Main Party and the Reserves will earn EXP whenever enemies are defeated. Monsters will earn more EXP the stronger their opponents are or if large groups attack them. Players can use a Bonus Ball item to increase the amount of EXP and Gold temporarily earned after a battle to speed up the process.

How to Apply Talent Points

Talent Points can be distributed at the end of a battle or from the menu. Players can see all the Talents a Monster has and read information on all the skills and traits that come with them.

Talent Points can be poured into one Talent automatically by hovering over it and clicking X to assign all, or you can apply Talent Points one at a time by clicking on the Talent.

How to Get New Talents

Players can get New Talents for their Monsters in two ways. The first is to purchase Talent Scrolls, sometimes found at various shops. The most reliable place to find Talent Scrolls is Fizzy's online shop. Fizzy hangs out near the entrance of the Rosehill Tower.

Players can talk to her to access the online features in DQM: The Dark Prince, including an online shop that updates regularly. She will usually have one or two Talent Scrolls in her inventory. Players can then teach the Talent to their chosen Monster.

The second way is to Synthesize Monsters. Synthesizing is combining two parent monsters to create a new Monster. The new Monster can inherit up to three Talents from their parents, and players will get to choose which three. Additionally, they will be born with up to half the Talent Points assigned to the Talents by their parents.

Occasionally, if a parent Monster has the maximum number of Talent Points assigned to a Talent, the new Monster will get an evolved special Talent. Players can also get these special Talents if both parents have the same Talent and their Points combined equal the maximum amount of that Talent.
