Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince is a monster-hunting JRPG in the Dragon Quest world. Players will play as Psaro, a cursed Monster prince who can't harm Monsters himself. To fix this dilemma, Psaro becomes a Monster wrangler and builds the ultimate monster party to follow him on his adventures.

Players can dive deep into the storyline in DQM: The Dark Prince or focus on the extensive online features that include battles and more. Once online play becomes available, players can enjoy fighting against friends, rivals, or randoms.

How to Play DQM: The Dark Prince Online

Dragon Quest Monsters The Dark Prince

When players first boot up their game, they are introduced to the storyline through a short introduction. This outlines Psaro's backstory and sets them up to venture out on their journey as a Monster wrangler. Players must play through this before they can access online features.

Players can play online after they complete their first tournament at Endor and meet the elf named Rose. Once Rosehill Tower is built, players will have full access to the world. To explore the online features, players must talk to Fizzy, hanging out downstairs by the entrance.

Players can also find Fizzy using their map by looking for the wifi symbol. Once they talk to her, she will briefly explain the online features. These include the following:

  • Online Battles
  • Quickfire Contest
  • Online Shop
  • Nintendo eShop
  • Player ID

Online Battles

Online Battles are where players can test their Monster teams against others. There are three kinds of Online Battles: Ranked, Friends, and Multiplayer Tournaments. If players are successful in Online Battles, they will earn rewards like Monsters and rare items.

Ranked matches are one-on-one battles against Monster wranglers all around the globe. Players who win these matches compete for the number one spot on the ranked circuit.

Players who want to play against people they know can start a Friend Match by registering others onto their Nintendo Switch friend list using their Player ID. Friend matches do not affect players' overall rank and are just for fun. Players can host these matches themselves or join a friend's.

Multiplayer Tournaments are group brawls with four to eight players competing in matches. Players can also watch other matches between their own in a tournament. Entering a Tournament ID is required to join one if hosting isn't preferred. However, those who host can set the rules.

Quickfire Contest

After players register their party's data, Quickfire contests can be joined once daily. They use the data from 30 players to conduct auto-battles that take place almost instantly. Rewards for doing well in Quickfire contests include rare items and Monster recruits.

When a Quickfire contest ends, players get to review the battle's stats and use other players' party data to have Sparring matches to practice new tactics and techniques.

Online Shop

Dragon Quest Monsters The Dark Prince

Fizzy runs the online shop and includes new items that update daily and change as the story progresses that players can buy with their in-game gold. These rare items include Talent Scrolls, battle accessories, meats, and more.

Online Battles, Quickfire Contests, and the Online shop are the primary online features in DQM: The Dark Prince. Still, players can also access the Nintendo eShop to purchase any available DLC without closing the game.
