Dragon Quest Monsters The Dark Prince

Players can choose from hundreds of Monsters when recruiting for their party. However, they have limited spots on their active teams. Players can assign their Monsters to two kinds of parties: the Main Party and the Reserves. There are eight Monsters between both parties, four at a time battling.

The Main Party goes first whenever players are in a wild battle, but the Reserves switch in if all four are defeated. When players win a battle, all Monsters earn EXP, even if the Reserves never fight.

Only the four Monsters in the Main Party participate during Arena battles.

Monsters are automatically added to the party when scouted in the wild or born from Synthesis. If the Main Party and the Reserve are full, players can add the recruit to a party or send it to the Monster Depot. The Monster Depot is where all Monsters who aren't in a party stay.

Players can switch Monsters between the Main Party and the Reserves any time by opening the menu and choosing "Change Party." This option is also available during battles. Then, move Monsters around as desired and click the plus symbol to confirm.

Monsters sent to the Monster Depot can't be accessed from the menu. Instead, players can visit the Paddock in Rosehill to view them. Use the teleportation station at Rosehill to go to the Paddock and speak to Zachariah to open the Monster Depot.

Later in the storyline, when players visit Nadiria, they can still access the Monster Depot by going to the Basement in Rosehill Tower and talking to Royston.

The Rosehill Tower Basement is also where Monty stays and helps players Synthesize their Monsters to create new species. Players can then put the Synthesized Monsters in their Reserves to help them level up without having to put them in battle.
