The first major level in Dragon Quest Builders 2 is the island of Furrowfield. As the name suggests, this level is all about restoring a farming community to its former glory. Players should expect to grow a lot of crops in Furrowfield, and one of these missions is to grow a certain amount of tomatoes. Tomatoes might be easy to grow in real life, but in Dragon Quest Builders 2, they take a few extra steps.

Growing tomatoes won't be the player's first or last experience with farming in the game. However, for a key quest, the game's explanation of tomatoes is a little flimsy. Yet, players shouldn't be afraid to get their hands dirty. Growing tomatoes is incredibly easy once the player learns exactly what to do.

Getting Seeds and Planting Poles

The first step to growing tomatoes is to talk to the orc in Furrowfield, which required to progress the game. He asks the player to find tomato seeds. To fulfill this request, walk around the nearby area with the dog. The dog will bark to alert the player if there are seeds nearby. Players can then dig up the shining spots, and gather enough tomato seeds to finish the quest.

Tomatoes are unique in that they require Planting Poles in order to grow. Players can swipe a few from the orc's farm, but to get more, they will need to use the crafting recipe that the orc unlocked. It takes 3 Wood and 1 Cord to make 10 Planting Poles. To start growing their veggies, players will also need a Scarecrow and a Bottomless Pot filled with fresh water.

Growing and Harvesting Tomatoes

First, set up the Scarecrow in a nice, open area for Wrigley to turn into tilled soil. Interact with the scarecrow, and set the field to grow Tomatoes. Place Tomato Seeds in a Community Chest and the villagers will plant them. Meanwhile, players should use the Hammer to dig a one-block-wide moat around the field. Fill this moat with water from the Bottomless Pot. This is not strictly necessary, but many players find it helpful since the villagers won't have to do as much watering themselves.

Next comes the important part - Planting Poles. Tomato seeds won't grow unless there's a Planting Pole on their tile. Simply place the Poles on the seed tiles, and the rest should happen automatically. When the tomatoes are ready to harvest, the villagers should pick them and put them in the Community Chest. If the player is having trouble getting tomatoes to grow, try placing the Planting Pole on the tilled soil before the seed. Sometimes the game is a bit picky about the order in which items are placed.
