Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age is one of the best JRPGs available on the PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass subscription services. The old-school mechanics and colorful visuals make a nice change from the dark and moody action RPGs dominating the genre.

Despite the old-school feel, Dragon Quest 11 is a stunning title with several features that keep it in line with the best in the genre. Players can even change their outfits in Dragon Quest 11 to keep their characters looking fresh and exciting. Some costumes require completing story events, tasks, and side quests to locate them all. However, players can change their look within the first hour of playing Dragon Quest 11.

How To Change Outfits

Dragon Quest 11 changeable outfit

The first character players can outfit on is the Luminary/Hero in Dragon Quest 11. However, not all armor pieces and accessories will visually change the character's look. Many serve the characters as a means to protect them in battle and raise their defenses, but if one looks out for equipment pieces that have a small magenta-colored diamond shape next to them, the costume changes.

Some items will require the complete set for the character's appearance to be reflected by the outfit changes, like the Trodain Togs and Bandana. Players can unlock the first costume within the first hour with little effort. The instructions to do this are as follows:

Unlock The Trodain Armor

Dragon Quest 11 claim rewards

The Trodain Armor set is available to all that have Dragon Quest 11 S: Echoes of an Elusive Age. It's a tribute to the costume set worn by the main protagonist in Dragon Quest 8. One can unlock the look as soon as players are free to explore the Cobblestone Village.

  • Press the Y/Triangle button on the controller.
  • Select Misc in the menu.
  • Select System Settings at the bottom of the menu.
  • Select Claim Special Rewards at the bottom of the system menu.
  • Ensure there is a checkmark on the Trodain Set and claim the items.
  • There is also a Baby Boar Set and the Happy Adventurer sets to claim.

Players will now have access to the Trodain set from Dragon Quest 8. The instructions to equip an outfit set are as follows:

  • Press the Y/Triangle button on the controller.
  • Select Equipment.
  • Scroll down to Outfit near the bottom of the menu screen.
  • Then select the Trodain set to equip it.

Players will also have access to another outfit to serve as a disguise once they have escaped the Heliodor Jail right before the opening. It's unlocked as part of the story, and there's no other requirement to obtain it. More sets will become available as one progresses through the story and accesses the post-game content in Dragon Quest 11, and the instructions above apply to all.

Dragon Quest 11 is available now for the 3DS, PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One
