Overtime, the once mysterious season pass of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is stepping into the light and revealing what it will hold, but new details about the Dragon Ball Super DLC are surprising to say the least. The DLC is confirmed to introduce Super Saiyan God Goku and Super Saiyan God Vegeta as playable characters, both of which can be unlocked via training with Whis, although in what capacity they will be playable is as of yet unknown. Still, although the Super Saiyan God form was extremely prevalent in the Battle of Gods movie, there is a lot about Goku's new transformation that fans may not be familiar with.

For those unaware, Ken Xyro and Dragon Ball Hype, two credible Dragon Ball reporters, recently leaked screenshots showing Goku in his Super Saiyan God form in action. In the screenshots he can be seen in this form fighting against Beerus and even Raditz, but there are many questions about how this form will work in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. In the Anime and Manga, Goku first receives this form after completing a ritual involving many other Saiyans and uses it to go toe to toe with Beerus, but it seems a different approach is being taken here.

The Super Saiyan God transformation is both interesting and rarely used, in large part due to both Goku and Vegeta learning the Super Saiyan Blue transformation very shortly after Goku learned this, making it mostly obsolete for a while. It is revealed during the Tournament of Power arc of Dragon Ball Super that the God form is easier to maintain than the Blue form, but isn't quite as strong. This form is first introduced when Goku achieves it through a ritual with the help of five other Saiyans; Gohan, Vegeta, Trunks, Goten, and Videl's unborn baby.

This ritual was originally thought to be the only way this power could be attained, but Vegeta's Super Saiyan God form made it clear that the form can be unlocked through intense training with a divine being. Like other Super Saiyan forms before it, Super Saiyan God amplifies the power of the user to an incredible degree. This form is leagues stronger than even Super Saiyan 3, as evidenced by Goku's two major encounters with Beerus, the God of Destruction. The main difference between this form and other forms, though, is the implementation of God Ki, which is similar to regular Ki but on a completely different level.

Goku learns of the Super Saiyan God ritual through a wish granted by Shenron, and although the form still isn't enough to surpass Beerus, it definitely levels the playing field to a degree. Unlike other forms of Super Saiyan, the transformation seems more effortless to attain, unlike Super Saiyan 3, and the user is generally extremely calm rather than consumed by rage. Goku's use of the Super Saiyan God form is rather limited, appearing during his battle with Beerus and then not again until the Tournament of Power.

Vegeta, on the other hand, is first seen on screen using the Super Saiyan Blue transformation against Golden Frieza, and isn't actually shown in the Super Saiyan God form until his battle with Goku Black in the Manga and the Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie in the anime. It is assumed that Vegeta acquired the form through his divine training with Whis rather than a ritual like Goku, which fits the prideful character of the prince of all Saiyans well, as he would detest needing energy from others to reach a new form.

Super Saiyan God Goku In Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot

Goku's method of attaining the God form seems to be different in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's original story episode, as the form has been confirmed to be unlocked through training with Whis. While it will be nice to see more about how Vegeta unlocked the form initially, it is strange that Kakarot is making this change to Goku's method of attaining it. This is largely due to the fact that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's DLC will not adapt the events of Battle of Gods and Resurrection F as complete stories, but rather as additional content for players to play through.

It is uncertain whether this form will be a skill added to Goku's skill tree or whether it will actually be a new playable character altogether. The above screenshot showing Super Saiyan God Goku fighting Raditz seems to imply the latter, as if this is a result of the time machine, using forms against Raditz should be impossible. That said, it has also been confirmed that this transformation can be unlocked before beating the main story, so it is possible that this is simply a new game in which the form was unlocked incredibly early.

Finally, if it is a new skill added to Goku's tree, odds are it will follow a similar pattern as the other transformations. The existing Super Saiyan Forms in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot each cap out at level three, and add a 50%, 100%, and 150% boost to stats for Super Saiyan 1, Super Saiyan 2, and Super Saiyan 3 respectively. It stands to reason that Super Saiyan God then would provide a 200% boost at level 3. If it is instead a new character, it is possible that Super Saiyan Blue will be available as a transformation skill for the new character instead.

Fans will have to wait until Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's Super DLC releases this Spring to learn definitive information about how this form works, as much of this is purely conjecture. The changes made to Goku's method of attaining the form are rather strange, but it is at the same time nice to see Kakarot exploring a facet of this underappreciated transformation which no other Dragon Ball media really has yet. The Super Saiyan God form is certain to be a powerful addition to player's arsenal, and likely the first thing many go for once the DLC finally releases.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
