A recent Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot leak looks to be turning everything that fans thought the second DLC would be on top of its head, purporting that the story arc DLC will be the Future Trunks saga. Because of this, many fans are questioning whether or not the Golden Frieza Saga will even make an appearance. In a sales listing for the Ultimate Edition of the game, Fanatical lists the contents of the Season Pass, including the Awakening Part 1 and 2 boss battle episodes. Where things get interesting, however, is the listing of the "Future Trunks Arc: Hope!" as the new story arc.

The leak itself comes from Fanatical, a United Kingdom based website which is both popular and credible in gaming circles in the UK, but has not been confirmed in any way. It has been since removed, but it's uncertain why. With that in mind, fans would do well to take this information with a grain of salt. Regardless of how true the leak is, though, it has certainly given the community pause, as many had simply assumed that Golden Frieza and the events of Resurrection F would be next in line for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC 2 Predictions

Initially, many had assumed that the second boss battle episode, A New Power Awakens Part 2, would mirror the first boss battle episode almost exactly. The DLC would begin with a segment of training with Whis in order to unlock the Super Saiyan Blue form for Goku and Vegeta, and then would end with a repeatable boss battle with Golden Frieza at whatever the maximum level for the second DLC is. This makes a ton of sense as it follows the precedent from the first episode and follows the events of both the Dragon Ball Z movies and Dragon Ball Super chronologically.

That said, if the leak is true and the Future Trunks Saga is in fact the new story arc, then that leaves two entire arcs for the second boss battle episode to choose between, the Golden Frieza Saga and the Universe 6 Saga. Previously, most believed that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot would never get a Universe 6 DLC, but if the leak is to be believed then it could be a possibility. There are a couple things to consider which lend towards either of these arcs as being potential candidates for the next boss battle episode, but there are just as many things which make either hard to believe.

How Viable is Golden Frieza for DBZ: Kakarot?

When it comes to the Evil Emperor's return in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, there is a lot of compelling evidence to suggest that he will be the main antagonist of the second DLC. For starters, it simply makes chronological sense that Resurrection F would follow Battle of Gods, as this is the exact order that this happened in the anime and movies. Another piece of evidence is that this is where the two Saiyans first showcase their Super Saiyan Blue forms, something which is all but confirmed to be arriving in DLC 2.

That said, there is some evidence against this inclusion. The biggest thing which could be stopping Frieza's return is that the manga version of Dragon Ball Super actually did not include the Golden Frieza Saga, instead jumping straight ahead to the Universe 6 Saga after Beerus' run. It could be that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot wants to stay true to all forms of Dragon Ball, although it is clear that the anime version of Dragon Ball Z was favored over the manga given the inclusion of filler moments. Finally, there is the rather unique situation which Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is in, as Frieza has already been resurrected by Goku after a sub-story involving the Namekian dragon balls.

If Not Golden Frieza, Then Who?

If Golden Frieza gets cut from Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, then the running theory for his replacement is Hit, who is in a loose sense the main antagonist in the Universe 6 Saga. Both Goku and Vegeta use Super Saiyan Blue against Hit, and in the manga version, this saga is when the transformation is introduced. Furthermore, Hit is definitely a fan favorite and would provide a boss battle that is incredibly unique as fans would have to deal with his time skip abilities as opposed to Frieza who fans have fought numerous times already in DBZ: Kakarot.

Though Hit would certainly be a great addition to Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, there are some problems with his inclusion. A lot of the intrigue of the Universe 6 Saga came from the fights leading up to Hit with other contestants, and since Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC 2 will be around the same size as DLC 1, there wouldn't be much room to adapt these fights in any meaningful way. The game did manage to boil down the original God of Destruction story, though, so it's possible that the events of the tournament are just ignored, as these DLCs are not considered canon.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Shouldn't Skip Frieza

Despite Hit's popularity, Frieza is without a doubt the most popular villain in DBZ due to his iconic role at the beginning of the series, surpassing even Broly and Cell in this category. There's a reason he was brought back into Dragon Ball Super, and many would be quite disappointed if he didn't play a role in the second DLC. Beyond this, though the manga is popular and tells the story well, the anime version of Super is the form that most of the audience is more familiar with, so it would be rather strange for this arc to be skipped, especially given the base game's favoring of the anime over the manga.

If the leak is true, then one of these two arcs will have to be skipped. Theoretically, it is even possible that both will be skipped in favor of the inclusion of Broly, but that would be even stranger. Between the two, it seems most likely that the Universe 6 Saga would kick the bucket, but fans won't know for certain until an official announcement reveals the actual plans for upcoming DLC.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
