One game available to users in the Extra and Premium tiers of PlayStation Plus does not offer a free upgrade to the PS5 version. PS Plus Extra and Premium members get access to a bunch of games every month, and March 2023 included titles from some noteworthy franchises.

Sony offered games like Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, Rainbow Six Extraction, Immortals Fenyx Rising, Life is Strange 2, Street Fighter 5 Championship Edition, and more to PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers in March 2023. While publishers often give both PS5 and PS4 versions of games coming to PS Plus, one title added to the library this month appears to be an exception to this practice.

As reported by Push Square, only the PS4 version of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available as a part of the PlayStation Plus Extra catalog of games. While it doesn’t change things for PS4 owners, this means that fans on PS5 will have to download the previous generation version of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot instead of the upgraded current-gen release. The PS5 edition of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot came out in January 2023, with a free upgrade to existing owners of the game, but it looks like the PS Plus version doesn’t come with the same offer.

The current generation release of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot has a few major upgrades over the original version, including improved graphics and support for 60 FPS gameplay, So, some PS5 users may be disappointed to learn that they cannot upgrade to this version for free. The remaining cross-generation games available to PS Plus Extra members this month offer the upgraded version for free, making this situation all the more puzzling.

A similar scenario has occurred before with a different game, as only the PS4 version of WWE 2K22 was offered to PS Plus Extra and Premium members in January 2023. While the exact reason for this practice is not clear, it seems like publishers want users on PS5 to purchase the current-generation edition instead.

Fans interested in playing Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot should note that Bandai Namco Entertainment has released several pieces of DLC for the game, with more coming in 2023. It was confirmed in 2022 that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot would get a second season pass, starting with Bardock: Alone Against Fate DLC which came out in January 2023 alongside the next-gen release.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available now for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
