Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot fans have waited patiently for news about the upcoming Golden Frieza DLC but still don't even have a release date for it. This lack of communication between Bandai Namco and fans has become a trend with the game, and Kakarot is starting to be synonymous with its sluggish DLC release schedule. Despite that bad reputation, when compared to the actual Dragon Ball Super anime, things don't seem as bad. With that comparison in mind, it's possible that the latest villain Goku and Vegeta have been struggling to defeat could come to the game before he even makes his anime debut.
Moro has proven to be a greater challenge than any enemy Goku and Vegeta have faced thus far. The moment it seems the Z Warriors have the upper hand in the conflict, he pulls a new trick out of his sleeve and gives them a good beatdown. If Moro were to make an appearance in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, it would likely be a long time away, but since there's no word of when the Dragon Ball Super anime will return, it's impossible to say which would come first. Moro would work well as a boss battle episode, but even better as the climax of a story arc given the way the manga is playing out.
When Will Dragon Ball Super Return?
Dragon Ball Super had a good run from 2015 to 2018, but after the Tournament of Power concluded over two years ago, fans have been left in the dark about the series' future. At the start of last year, Dragon Ball Super: Broly debuted in theaters, showing more events that happened after the Tournament of Power, but other than that there has been no news about when the anime will return.
When it does finally come back, fans are expecting to see the Galactic Prisoner Saga that is currently ongoing in the Manga. Unlike the original Dragon Ball Z anime, Dragon Ball Super isn't adapting the manga like a traditional anime, rather both mediums are working with the story written by Akira Toriyama at the same time, providing similar interpretations with minor differences here and there. For that reason, it doesn't seem likely that the anime is waiting for the manga to catch up, but if that isn't the case then there's not much explanation for why Dragon Ball Super's hiatus has lasted so long.
Moro in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot
As the most recent villain that the Z Warriors are facing, Moro is incredibly powerful due to his strong magic abilities. If he were to appear in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot as DLC, it wouldn't be until late next year at the earliest. There's still a lot of Dragon Ball Super content to adapt, and until DLC 3 comes out it's difficult to say how long it will take to get through that content. Assuming each Season Pass consists of two boss battle episodes and a new story arc like the first season pass does, and each DLC represents one of Dragon Ball Super's arcs, then Moro wouldn't arrive until the third pass.
DLC 1 adapted Battle of Gods and had fans facing off with Beerus, while DLC 2 is going to introduce Golden Frieza and the Super Saiyan Blue form. Following this pattern, DLC 3 will likely feature the Universe 6 Saga, adding Cabba to the story and pitting players against the assassin Hit. From there, the second season pass would have to include the Future Trunks Saga and the Tournament of Power as its first two DLCs, before culminating in a story arc DLC based on Dragon Ball Super: Broly. That would mean Moro wouldn't come until DLC 7, potentially as the first part of a third season pass.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC Release Schedule
To determine which is more likely to come first, the release schedule of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's DLC needs to be put under a magnifying glass. When the game first released in January of 2020, fans knew that there'd be three DLCs on the way with its season pass, but had no idea of when those would arrive. It's safe to say that back then, no one expected to still be waiting on the second one in October.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC 1 released in late April, giving fans about three months to explore the base game's content before moving on to the DLC. It was originally thought that the DLC would follow a quarterly release schedule, but DLC 2 has thrown that idea out. Almost half a year after the release of the first DLC and ten months after the base game came out, fans still don't have a release date for DLC 2. At this rate, it isn't looking like DLC 3 will arrive this year, meaning fans can expect a year or more for each season pass.
Will Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Have Another Season Pass
Of course, all of this rides on whether or not Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will even get another Season Pass. Given the negative reception of how this one is being handled, it may end up being the best interest of Bandai Namco to jump ship rather than try and take on a second set of DLC content. Assuming that doesn't happen, though, Moro wouldn't make his way into the game until late 2022 or possibly even early 2023 depending on how the release schedule plays out in the future.
Given that Dragon Ball Super ended over two years ago, one can hope that the anime will boot back up before 2023, but there's really no telling for certain. One or both of these forms of media will end up seeing Moro eventually, but until there's more information about the return of the Dragon Ball Super anime or the status of the game after DLC 3, it's difficult to say which will get it first.
