The latest leak for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot comes as a short gameplay clip of Majin Vegeta fighting against Fat Buu. In the clip, mid-fight, Majin Vegeta transforms from Super Saiyan into Super Saiyan 2 – as revealed by the UI menu that shows what transformations the player's controlled character can perform. While it's not surprising that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will allow players to perform in-game transformations, for Majin Vegeta to be able to do it is interesting.
Majin Vegeta has never been able to transform in any game that he's appeared in prior to Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. Every game that features him has him locked in his Super Saiyan 2 state. There's never been any reason for him to start in a lower form because Majin Vegeta has only ever had two canon fights, the first being against Goku and the last being against Fat Buu. In both of those battles, Majin Vegeta goes Super Saiyan 2 right out of the gate.
The in-game transformation itself is short but sweet. When Vegeta transforms, time slows down, and his body flashes blue for a moment, releasing some cool particle effects in the process. Then Vegeta's Super Saiyan aura spikes into the air, accompanied by the signature lightning of a Super Saiyan 2 transformation. The transformation then completes itself with a final burst of light and electricity.
Not only will players be able to control both Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan 2 Majin Vegeta, but it looks like they'll even be able to play Majin Vegeta's base form as well. The UI menu that players can bring up to pick what transformations they want their characters to undergo revealed that Majin Vegeta can "Revert" while in his Super Saiyan form. Base Majin Vegeta never made an appearance in the anime. He went Super Saiyan before allowing Babidi's influence to take him completely, so his inclusion in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will make it the first time he's ever made an actual appearance.
The fact that Majin Vegeta transforms like regular Vegeta is pretty cool. Players have never had the opportunity to use either his base or Super Saiyan forms. Neither one will probably play much different from the Super Saiyan 2 form fans are used to – aside from maybe the scale of flashness seen in ki attacks – but the choice of aesthetics is still a welcome one. How long players will be able to enjoy Majin Vegeta is still up in the air, though, since his time in the anime and manga was so short. But Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot has side quests and other things it plans to implement, so maybe Majin Vegeta fans will have some leeway to work with.
