Dragon Ball Z has been adapted to video games countless times. Out of the series' many titles, no other game recreates the style of the anime more accurately than Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. The way that the game combines flashy fast-paced combat and its gorgeous cell-shaded visuals makes it feel like the player is playing an accurate version of the anime. Along with this, the in-game cutscenes that recreate iconic moments from the show look better than they ever have. For a couple of years, Bandai Namco and CyberConnect2 have been releasing more DLC for the game, though it seems like more is on the way.

Bandai Namco has recently revealed a new trailer for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's newest DLC, which shows the story of Bardock. Along with this, it was revealed that a second season pass would be made available for the game, with the other included stories being shown off in the future - giving the game a season pass is similar to how Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 gets its DLC. Xenoverse 2 is still receiving DLC to this day and gets new content based off of new Dragon Ball storylines and some original content. Giving Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC like Xenoverse 2 is the best call for the game.

DLC Like Xenoverse 2 Will Improve The Longevity of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot

dragon ball xenoverse 2 review

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is still getting DLC to this day, with its most recent update including characters from the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie. This allows players to take their characters through new storylines in the series as well as try out new characters and see how they play in the game. Xenoverse 2 has been going strong for around six years and there is still a lot of possibility for future DLC. With the game still having a passionate fan base, it is likely that the game will get additional DLC as more Dragon Ball content is released.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot did fairly well, considering that the game is still getting DLC two years after its initial release. This is more than most games could ask for and the fact that DLC is still being made means that a good amount of people must have been interested in more after the last season pass. The existing stories that have not yet been adapted are already there for Bandai Namco and CyberConnect2 to work with, so it is just a matter of implementing them into more DLC. Since Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is a largely single-player game, adapting these stories into more DLC is the right call to keep people engaged with the title.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Still Has Many Stories Left To Adapt

The Dragon Ball series is full of iconic stories that have been adapted several times. While Xenoverse 2 focuses on playable characters and "what if" scenarios, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot has more of a focus on recreating iconic moments from the series. Even more so than Xenoverse 2, there is still a lot of material for the game to work with, as there is still a lot of content from the movies, Dragon Ball Super, and Dragon Ball GT that could be touched on. Since Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot also has additional RPG elements and a world to explore, those mechanics could be used to further explore these stories and give them some added depth.

With such an expansive well of content that has yet to be adapted, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot could easily get support for the next few years. The game is already a couple of years old and still has DLC planned into 2023. Even after the second season pass for the game, there is more than enough content to work with to warrant a third season pass for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. It would be the best move for Bandai Namco to follow the same formula of DLC as Xenoverse 2 by releasing new content along with new Dragon Ball material.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. It will release on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2023.
