Slowly but surely, new details regarding Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's upcoming DLC are being revealed. The first is set to adapt the events around Whis and Beerus, with the former becoming a new training module and the latter serving as another boss, potentially similar to Bonyu. Perhaps one of the most interesting things confirmed and reiterated via DBZ: Kakarot's new DLC screenshots is that Super Saiyan God Vegeta has a role in the upcoming DLC.

Fans of the anime may be surprised by this, as this means SSG Vegeta is appearing far sooner than elsewhere in the DBZ universe, and that many see Vegeta as jumping straight to Super Saiyan Blue in the core anime. The exact details about DBZ: Kakarot's Super DLC have yet to be confirmed, but a solid look at SSG and Vegeta show how this is possible.

The Super Saiyan God Transformation

The Super Saiyan God form itself is worth exploring, as while it appears throughout the story, it is overshadowed by the more powerful and more popular form, Super Saiyan Blue. It's first introduced in the Battle of the Gods movie where it is revealed Shenron cannot grant this power to Goku; instead, Goku must absorb the energy from 5 Saiyans to ascend to this form. As with most forms, Goku can only use it for a limited time at first, though this is later mastered. This form transforms the user Ki into divine energy and amplifies their power tremendously. Note that this is not the way it is unlocked in DBZ: Kakarot.

Later on, it's revealed that certain training can also unlock this form, which does seem like a strange out to the aforementioned ritual. This method, regardless, is how SSG seems to be unlocked in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, but way before either the anime or manga.

Super Saiyan God Vegeta in the Anime, Manga

In both the anime and the manga, Vegeta is shown using Super Saiyan Blue first. This led many to postulate that Vegeta simply circumvented the form, much like he did Super Saiyan 3 and jumped to Super Saiyan 4 in Dragon Ball GT. One commonly accepted explanation of this is that, since Goku achieved SS3 while dead and Gotenks could only do it via fusion, there's special conditions involved in it that Vegeta couldn't meet. The same was thought of the SSG ritual.

However, both the Dragon Ball Super anime and manga show Vegeta eventually using this form, thereby confirming he has had it for some time. In the DBS manga, Vegeta is first show to strategically use this form against Goku Black; in the anime, he uses it first against Broly in the Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie. It is later confirm that he was able to achieve this form by training with Whis.

That's how and where Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's Super Saiyan God Vegeta comes into play. Since the DLC is less of a story adaptation and more of an add-on of sorts, it seems the ritual mentioned in Battle of the Gods is completely skipped over. As such, it seems that both Goku and Vegeta will achieve this form by training with Whis, at the very least until more concrete details come to light. This does make more sense than any story adaptation; reports indicate this can be done before completing the story. The aforementioned screenshots show what appears to be early use of Vegeta, especially against Dodoria, and since this doesn't appear to be something allowed by DBZ: Kakarot's Time Machine, it is the most logical explanation for the early appearance of the character. At least to this regard, Vegeta fans won't complain.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
