Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot tells the story of Dragon Ball Z, and as such transformations and forms play a major role in the game. Enemies like Cell, Majin Buu, and Frieza all have multiple forms, while playable characters like Goku, Vegeta, and Piccolo all receive power boosts through numerous transformations like Super Saiyan. With the first DLC confirmed to adapt the Gods of the Universe Saga– based on Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods and Resurrection F– a plethora of new forms and transformations are making their way to DBZ: Kakarot. Many fans want to know how these forms will stack up compared to the old ones.
For those unaware, credible Dragon Ball Reporter, Dragon Ball Hype, recently shared an image of the large tree on Beerus' homeworld. From this, most fans are assuming that the first Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC will tell the story of Dragon Ball Z's only canon movies, Battle of Gods and Resurrection F. Naturally, as more powerful threats invade the Earth, Goku, and the gang are required to reach new heights and break their limits to defend it. The result of this is an ever-increasing power scale and all new forms for players to both utilize and fight against.
Super Saiyan (Gotenks)
Ironically, the weakest of the form used in any serious battle in both Battle of Gods and Resurrection F is also used by one of the strongest characters in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. If that doesn't give a sense of the godly scale of these stories, nothing will. Goten and Trunks fuse to fight Beerus after he decides he wants to destroy the planet. Gotenks turns Super Saiyan and charges at Beerus but is immediately dispatched before he even has a chance to go Super Saiyan 3. Of course, if players fight Beerus as Gotenks, they will likely have the option to go Super Saiyan 3, but even that doesn't change the order of this list.
Ultimate Form (Gohan)
Yet another form which was the pinnacle of power in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, Ultimate Gohan ranks rather low compared to the transformations and forms which will be introduced in the DLC. In this form, Gohan is able to completely overpower Super Buu, and still puts up quite a good fight after Super Buu absorbs Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks. The only character stronger than this would be Vegito. Nonetheless, when Ultimate Gohan fights Beerus, he is taken out incredibly fast. Later Gohan forgets how to use this transformation, so it will be interesting to see how this is handled gameplay-wise.
Super Saiyan God (Goku)
Goku achieves the Super Saiyan God form after partaking in a ritual in which all of the Saiyans transfer energy to him, unlocking his ability to sense and channel god ki. This form takes the appearance of a much more slender Goku enveloped in red, divine energy. In this form, Goku is able to go blow for blow with Beerus, although it is later revealed that Beerus was using only a fraction of his power. This transformation easily outclasses anything fans have seen yet, including Kid Buu and Super Vegito. Regarding mechanics, it is likely this form will follow the same pattern as the others provide a 150-200% boost depending on level.
Golden Frieza
The main antagonist of the second half of the Gods of the Universe Saga is Frieza, who returned from the grave and with far more power. Frieza, after training for four months, is able to unlock a new form and level of power which he dubs Golden Frieza. In this form, Frieza's strength rivals that of the gods, including Beerus and Super Saiyan God Goku, although he could never defeat the former with this power. His grand reveal is somewhat anticlimactic though, as Goku and Vegeta reveal new, even more powerful forms immediately after Frieza does.
Super Saiyan Blue (Vegeta and Goku)
After Goku unlocks the power of Super Saiyan God, Vegeta entreats Whis to train him, and the angel obliges. Although it is unclear who achieves this form first, both Goku and Vegeta attain the power of Super Saiyan Blue, or Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan as it was once called. Although the former is certainly easier to say, the latter describes this form better. Super Saiyan Blue is the result of a Saiyan who has the power of a god then applying the Super Saiyan transformation, and its power far exceeds that of Super Saiyan God.
Goku and Vegeta overpower Golden Frieza with ease, and get one step closer to Beerus. Like Super Saiyan God, this form will probably follow the same pattern as other forms. At first level, players should expect to see a 200% increase to power, but this number will raise at level 2 to 225%, and cap out at level three with a massive 250% increase to power. This also will be the highest form available to players in DBZ: Kakarot's DLC, as all other forms are exclusive to enemies.
God of Destruction (Beerus)
This is less a form and more a position or title, but it represents the new bar which Goku and Vegeta are striving to reach. Beerus is simply untouchable by even the likes of Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Vegeta should he opt to use his full power, and this fact helps to put the universe into perspective with the introduction of gods. Beerus will likely be the first major boss players go up against in the DLC, and even then he will be holding back his true power. There are several beings stronger than Beerus, like Whis or the Omni-king Zeno, but they don't take direct roles in combat.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot handled forms well in its base game. Unlocking a new one always felt awesome since they were walled off by story events so they couldn't be accessed early, and each consecutive form really felt like a major power boost compared to the last. The same thing can be done in the upcoming DBZ: Kakarot DLC if developers follow the same kinds of rules they set for the base game. New transformations have always been one of the more exciting parts of Dragon Ball, and the new DLC will not let fans down in that department.
