Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot presents players with the opportunity to play through the events of Dragon Ball Z in RPG form, controlling Goku and his comrades as they navigate the events of the series. While Dragon Ball Z is the most well known Dragon Ball series in the West, it is far from all of it, and the sixth Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot sixth DLC pack is promising to close out the series events. With the events of Dragon Ball Z fully covered, the only place the game will have to go in future content is into Dragon Ball's other series, and in doing so, this sixth DLC could begin to reveal issues with the anime.

The Dragon Ball franchise was, for a time, simple. While Dragon Ball Z began to introduce alternate timelines, the Peaceful World Saga is where things begin to get confusing. During this final arc, the rumored subject of the sixth DLC, there is a 10-year time skip, followed by the introduction of Uub. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will have to contend with this time skip. The problem with this is that future DLCs covering the events of Dragon Ball Super and GT are rumored for the game's next season of content. The addition of Peaceful World Saga DLC along with content from other series could reveal Dragon Ball's problems with its convoluted timeline.

Dragon Ball Has A Timeline Problem

How The Majin Buu Saga Could Have Been Improved Dragon Ball-1

Dragon Ball Super, while frequently described as a sequel to Dragon Ball Z, is actually an interquel. Super takes place during the 10-year time jump in Dragon Ball Z's Peaceful World Saga. This means that while Uub is the big focus of the end of Dragon Ball Z, he never actually appears in its so-called sequel as he is still a small child. Assuming that future seasons cover the events of Super as leaks suggest, this jump back in time is going to be confusing. Dragon Ball Super and its events will not answer questions raised after the time jump, and for those unfamiliar with Dragon Ball's timelines, this could prove dissatisfying.

Dragon Ball Z has a more traditional sequel in Dragon Ball GT, which does follow the events of the Peaceful World Saga. While Dragon Ball GT would be the easier way to follow up the sixth DLC, the series is not canon to the manga on which Dragon Ball Super is based. This means that including content from both Super and GT would make Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's third season of DLC a challenge for developers to get right. Dragon Ball's timelines and canon are a mess to figure out for all but its most dedicated fans, and the Peaceful World Saga exposes this fact with how it divides the series.

The Peaceful World Saga Is A Strange Ending

Goku an Uub

Even divorced from the potential of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's future DLC and the events of Super and GT, the Peaceful World Saga still draws attention to the series flaws. The arc ends with Goku training Uub to ensure that the earth will have a protector after he grows old. This ending, while a logical one, is very open-ended. Without the events of Super fans of Z are left with a 10-year gap during which the events are left a mystery, followed by Goku leaving his family and comrades to go train a newly introduced character. Without the events of Super or GT, the events at the end of Dragon Ball Z aren't as satisfying.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's sixth DLC will bring the confusing nature of Dragon Ball's timeline to light, and make the events of the Peaceful World Saga potentially feel underwhelming, especially if it is the game's final content. This sixth DLC will also likely be Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's shortest DLC as there is simply not much content for it to cover. In spite of this, the inclusion of the Peaceful World Saga would mean that the game has covered the events of Dragon Ball Z more thoroughly than any other game in the franchise, and that is something to celebrate.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
