Highlights

  • Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's DLC releases have been sporadic and lack clear communication, leaving fans waiting for extended periods of time.
  • The upcoming DLC 5 and DLC 6 for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot have no set release dates, causing uncertainty among fans. DLC 5 is the World Tournament Arc, while reliable leaks suggest DLC 6 is the Peaceful World Saga.
  • There are also reliable rumors that future DLCs could delve into Super or GT content.
  • While the idea of expanding on the game's content is exciting, it may be more beneficial to create separate Dragon Ball Super or GT games instead of continuously adding to Kakarot's story.

Based on recent reliable rumors, it seems Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot plans to bring in more and more content to expand on Goku's story, but its current cadence truly puts the "long" in long-term plans. While the gaming industry is no stranger to delays and content droughts, DBZ: Kakarot's DLC releases seem erratic and indicative of something else other than typical delays.

As many know, DBZ: Kakarot is no stranger to long periods of time between releases. Many presumed this was due to the COVID-19 pandemic during its earliest days, as fans were kept waiting for the first DLC, the second DLC, and the third DLC. It was a bit of a surprise when Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot revealed DLC 4, which is based on Bardock's story. DBZ: Kakarot confirmed the 23rd World Tournament as DLC 5 in February 2023 and has seen shown off a few features, playable characters, and so forth. However, five months later, there's still no release date confirmation.

Where is DBZ: Kakarot DLC 5 and DLC 6?

DragonBallZ Kakarot 23rd Tournament DLC

Following DBZ: Kakarot's Bardock DLC, many fans would reasonably think that DLC releases would pick up in speed given the amount of time between DLC 3 and DLC 4. However, that's clearly not the case. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC 5 will hopefully release by the end of 2023, but there's really no guarantee about that. Meanwhile, reliable leakers have indicated that DBZ: Kakarot DLC 6 will be about the Peaceful World Saga, and another slate of DLC will eventually bring in DB Super and/or GT content. On paper, that sounds great for the future of the game. It's a single-player game, so such extensive support may seem odd, but it's actually common among DBZ games. There's no way Xenoverse 3 happens while Xenoverse 2 continues to get support.

However, while Xenoverse's fighting game nature ensures players are consistently involved with it, Kakarot IS a single-player game. Asking players to come back every few months is one thing, but asking fans to come back at seemingly erratic moments in time is another thing. It stands to reason since there's still no word on DLC 5, there's a good chance that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC 6 doesn't release by the end of the year, and beyond that is absolutely in question. Some communication would be beneficial here, but truth be told, it would perhaps just be better to make proper Dragon Ball Super or GT games like this, instead of expanding on Kakarot.

At the same time, a long-term vision for DBZ: Kakarot is absolutely welcomed. Many fans have been excited about these DLCs and the rumors surrounding them, but if there is a long-term plan here, then better planning might be in order. Until then, every DLC feels more like a road bump along the way, and the time between their release feels like a total roadblock.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
