Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot players finally have some information about DLC 3, and as time passes by, even more details are flooding in. From the reveal trailer alone, players now know that the next DLC pack will focus on Future Trunks' timeline, depicting his struggle as a child after the Androids ravage his world. In this alternate timeline, Goku dies of a heart disease and the rest of the Z Warriors quickly follow suit, leaving a baby Trunks and a Teen Gohan alone to fend for themselves. In principle this may not come as a surprise since he was featured in the trailer, but Future Gohan will be a different character altogether from Adult Gohan.

While these two characters are technically the same person, they are from alternate timelines and therefore are very different from one another. Whereas Adult Gohan was able to unlock his Ultimate Gohan form and challenge Buu, Future Gohan never reaches Super Saiyan 2. There's also the distinctive feature of having only one arm, something that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is going to keep for Future Gohan.

With these differences and some others, it's highly likely that these two characters will play very differently from one another. Aside from the training that Gohan received from Piccolo, he had to do all his learning on his own. This means that he never spent a year in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber with Goku to unlock Super Saiyan 2, and he may not even have some of the techniques he learned from Piccolo. Instead, this fighter will be a much rawer version of Gohan, using only what he could teach himself to fight.

The other thing Future Gohan is responsible for is teaching Future Trunks how to fight. At the start of this story, Trunks should be a baby, and Teen Gohan is the only one powerful enough to protect him in any capacity. As the two grow up together, Future Gohan takes on a fatherly role for the young Trunks, teaching him how to fight and ultimately helping him tap into the power of a Super Saiyan. This means that Future Trunks may well be receiving a unique moveset as well, though this remains to be seen.

Future Gohan is a fan favorite character for many, as it shows what Gohan could have become if he had focused on training and stayed serious. Not so much in terms of power, as the lax Adult Gohan from Dragon Ball Super is still more powerful than Future Gohan, but rather in terms of attitude. It will be exciting to finally get to play this character and see his full story unfold.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
