Bandai Namco has finally revealed some information about Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's upcoming Super DLC, officially confirming the leaks from Dragon Ball Hype and Ken Xyro that Super Saiyan God Goku and Vegeta would be added to the game. While this is great news, it isn't much that fans didn't already know other than an official confirmation, but it does add to the credibility of those Dragon Ball reporters and give more substance to theories about the DLC based on their leaks. One question burning in everyone's mind which neither they nor Bandai Namco have answered is whether Super Saiyan Blue will feature in the DLC, or if it will wait until DLC 2.

For those unaware, both the leaks and Bandai Namco's official post confirm that Goku and Vegeta will have Super Saiyan God forms available for players of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, but it is still uncertain whether it will be in the form of a new skill for the Saiyans similar to all the other transformations or if the god forms of Goku and Vegeta will actually be separate playable characters. Most fans likely would prefer the former, but there are some benefits and drawbacks to each possibility. The DLC is slated to release sometime this Spring, so fans likely won't know for certain until then.

If Super Saiyan God turns out to be a new transformation unlocked in Goku and Vegeta's skill tree like most fans expected, it is likely it would follow a similar pattern as the other Super Saiyan forms did, providing a multiplier to all stats depending on the level of the skill. Since Super Saiyan 1 granted a 50% boost to stats, Super Saiyan 2 granted a 100% boost, and Super Saiyan 3 grants a 150% boost, it stands to reason that Super Saiyan God would grant 200% and not much else.

Still, the wording in the leaks and Bandai Namco's official reveal seem to imply that these two will be separate playable characters, and although that leads some to think that DBZ: Kakarot may be repeating Dragon Ball FighterZ' mistake of having too many Gokus and Vegetas, there are some benefits to this. If they are separate playable characters, fans can expect to see two entirely new movesets, skill trees, and more from the characters, as well as a higher probability that the first DLC will include Super Saiyan Blue as a transformation available to these specific characters.

Super Saiyan Blue in DBZ: Kakarot

Super Saiyan Blue is similar to Super Saiyan God in that it uses God Ki, but is far more powerful. Its original name, Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan, while a mouthful, describes the form far better. Essentially, this is the result of a Super Saiyan God applying the Super Saiyan technique on top of the god form, and the result is naturally impressive. As such, if Super Saiyan Blue were to appear before Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's second season pass, it would likely be as a transformation for the new playable characters Super Saiyan God Goku and Vegeta.

It would be strange if the new characters were constantly in God form and had no transformations to use, given that transformations are one of the more exciting aspects of the game. It is possible that the new characters will actually start in base form and then unlock Super Saiyan God as a transformation, but not enough is known to really draw a conclusion here. It seems even less likely to appear should the God form be a new skill for Goku beyond Super Saiyan 3, as it would provide a ridiculous power boost of 250%

Will SSG Goku and Vegeta be Separate Playable Characters?

There is a lot to unpack here regarding the probability of these two being separate characters or new transformations for the currently existing ones, but the most compelling details so far are the images of Vegeta fighting Dodoria and Goku fighting Raditz in Super Saiyan God form. It is as of yet unclear whether these fights are occurring because the time machine was used or if this is the first time fighting them on this playthrough. Since it has been confirmed that Super Saiyan God will be attainable before completing the game, either is theoretically possible.

Yet both provide a host of problems as well. If the time machine was used to facilitate these fights, then Super Saiyan God Goku and Vegeta couldn't be separate playable characters because the time machine does not allow players to swap out party members. When returning to the past to replay a fight, the player must use the character which took part in that fight originally. That said, if this is a first playthrough and Super Saiyan God can really be unlocked as early as Raditz, it still wouldn't make much sense for these to be separate playable characters unless they have a special rule which allows them to be swapped out for base Goku and Vegeta.

If they are in fact transformations instead, things get a bit hairy. Obviously, if a player is able to unlock the Super Saiyan God transformation before even beating Raditz, they would be able to use that form against him or Dodoria, but if these battles are a direct result of the time machine, then it isn't so simple. The time machine currently locks transformations which the player wouldn't have access to yet at that time, so given that Super Saiyan God isn't tied to any specific point in the story, would its use be prohibited?

Whether or not Super Saiyan Blue will feature in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's first DLC or a second DLC is anyone's guess, but the facts known so far seem to point toward the probability that Super Saiyan God will be a transformation rather than a new playable character, which in turn seems to lessen the likelihood of Super Saiyan Blue being available. Still, it is possible that they will in fact be separate characters which can be swapped out for Goku and Vegeta at any time, in which case Super Saiyan Blue is definitely on the table. Only time will tell once Kakarot's DLC release date finally arrives.
