Although most fans had understandably assumed that the second boss battle episode of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot would continue on chronologically and pit players against the tyrant Golden Frieza, some compelling evidence has surfaced online suggesting that Hit may actually be fans' next great challenge. This change in perception is caused by a recent leak discovered by Dm Gaming which purports that the story arc being added in DLC 3 will focus on the Future Trunks Saga of Dragon Ball Super rather than Broly or the Universe 6 Saga. There's a lot to unpack from this info, however, that suggests Hit may be the next main antagonist.

The leak itself is a rather strange case, as it comes from a United Kingdom based website called Fanatical. Preliminary research paints this to be a rather reputable and well-known website among gaming circles in that area, so the leak may have more clout to it than initially thought. Under the listing of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's Ultimate Edition, when describing the content of the season pass, it lists the new story arc as "Future Trunks Arc: Hope!" Though this is in no way confirmed, and the listing has since removed that detail, it does beg some interesting questions.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot May Skip Golden Frieza

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Skip Golden Frieza

But how does the inclusion of the Future Trunks Saga indicate that Golden Frieza will be skipped? Assuming that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot attempts to follow Dragon Ball Super at least somewhat chronologically, either this arc or the Universe 6 Saga will need to be skipped, and between the two of them there are some strong points to make a case for either. That said, The Resurrection F arc is notable as although it was in the movie and the anime, it was not adapted in the manga version of Dragon Ball Super.

As such, it could actually make sense to skip this arc and go straight into the Universe 6 Tournament, which is exactly what the manga did. In this way, the game's DLC would stay true to all the source material, although it does seem strange as the base game seemed to favor the anime over the manga. Either way, it makes no difference whether Goku or Vegeta first use their Super Saiyan Blue forms against Golden Frieza or in the Tournament of Destroyers, as in both cases it was implied that the form was achieved beforehand d uring training with Whis.

Beyond the points mentioned above, the Universe 6 Saga does a lot more for the story of Dragon Ball Super than Resurrection F. Although the latter brings the incredibly popular Frieza back into the fold, he is swiftly killed and doesn't return again until the Tournament of Power. On the other hand, the Universe 6 Saga brings about the concept of the multiverse, vastly opening up the mythos of the Dragon Ball universe. With it come new Saiyans, a ton of new alien foes, and even more gods such as Champa and Vados.

Frieza is undoubtedly popular, and while many love the events of Resurrection F and would find it strange to skip over them, it admittedly doesn't do much for the story. The entire movie can be summarized as Frieza comes back and then gets killed. This does seem to fit the scope of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's boss battle episodes, however, as it is unlikely that DLC 2 will explore the Tournament of Destroyers to its full potential. Still, the concept of the multiverse is integral to understanding the Future Trunks Saga, and Golden Frieza doesn't play any role whatsoever in that story.

Hit in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot

If DBZ: Kakarot does in fact skip over Golden Frieza, then Hit would be the next obvious choice. As the main antagonist of the Universe 6 Saga, Hit proves to be an incredibly deadly challenge for both Goku and Vegeta. In Vegeta's initial fight with the assassin, he is swiftly defeated, and only by watching this defeat is Goku able to figure out how to fight him on equal grounds despite using the Super Saiyan Blue form. Even after this point, Goku doesn't actually win the fight between the two of them.

Hit would make an incredibly interesting boss battle as he makes use of his Time Skip ability. This would require players to find a way to adapt to this overpowering move and could aid in making yet another impressive boss battle. Furthermore, the fight with Hit is also where Goku unleashes the Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken technique, which would translate to Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot in a rather interesting way. Perhaps the form will grant a massive 300% boost when fully leveled but will drain both Ki and HP at an extremely fast rate, making it incredibly powerful but difficult to sustain just like in the lore.

Hit or Golden Frieza?

Hit and Frieza Dragon Ball

Once again, there are some compelling arguments for either side. Both boss fights would need to be repeatable in the same way that Beerus' fight is, so either choice will require some narrative play on the part of Bandai Namco. Though Frieza is more popular than Hit and follows after Beerus chronologically, fans have already faced numerous forms of Frieza and Hit's Universe 6 Saga would set things up for a Future Trunks story arc DLC much better. Of course, these speculations all depend entirely on the accuracy of the leak from Fanatical, which has since been taken down.

Whether Golden Frieza or Hit comes to Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, the first DLC should set fans expectations for the second. Both will be of similar size and scope, and the second DLC should unlock the Super Saiyan Blue form for Goku and Vegeta. It would be unwise to expect too many great moments from these sagas to be included (such as the Z Warriors VS. Frieza Force or Vegeta VS. Cabba), as these boss battle episodes are stated to be around the length of a few sub-stories combined.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
