Video games based on Japanese anime are a dime a dozen. One of the most recent titles to garner a lot of attention online was Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, which is still seeing support since it released in January through updates like a time machine allowing players to re-experience story events. Today, the Sony subsidiary anime and music production company Aniplex announced that Kakarot's developers, CyberConnect2, are working on a new game called Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - Hinokami Keppuutan.

The game, based on last year's popular anime series adapted from a manga created in 2016, is being made with Unreal Engine just like Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot and will be available in 2021 on the PlayStation 4 in Japan. Its developer was also responsible for the Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogy that released on Nintendo Switch in 2018. Demon Slayer's first foray into the interactive medium will be published by Aniplex, rather than Bandai-Namco as was the case with Kakarot.

Aniplex's reveal trailer is just about the definition of a teaser, showing a brief cinematic of Demon Slayer's protagonist Tanjiro Kamado in what looks to be an appealing cel-shaded style doing what he does best: Slaying a demon in the hot-blooded pursuit of revenge. The original trailer has been made unavailable in America, but was re-published on YouTube for English audiences by the online publication Gematsu.

Though not much has been revealed about what the new Demon Slayer game will entail, CyberConnect2 has a track record that suggests it will at least be worth looking into for fans of the anime. That being said, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot players are still waiting on its season pass to be released, so hopefully, the developers have not put too much on their plates.

Upcoming DLC for the recent action role-playing game based on Toei Animation's classic anime series is set to include an entire arc about characters from Dragon Ball Super, the long-running franchise's latest iteration. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is one of many games to be released based on the property in recent years, including the popular fighting game Dragon Ball FighterZ.

Fans of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot should keep Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - Hinokami Keppuutan in mind come 2021, if the game releases in the west around the same time as in Japan.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - Hinokami Keppuutan will be available for the PlayStation 4 in 2021.
