In the Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 update that launched the Festival of Universes players were also given access to a new game mode. "Cross-Versus" allows players to form two teams of three and participate in a contest that mixes PVE and PVP elements while putting all players on a level playing field.

Cross-Versus is a rather unique game mode in which players of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 must complete objectives and rack up points as a team of three while competing against a rival team of three. All players are set to level one and can advance up to level seven as the match progresses, and as they complete objectives. Earning enough points opens the path to a boss whose defeat will immediately end the match.

How to Start Cross-Versus

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2_Cross-Versus

To create or join a room for Cross-Versus players should head for the Time Machine Station in Conton City, where a new NPC can be found near the Transfer Shop Clerk. Speaking to the Cross-Versus NPC allows players to access the Cross-Versus Menu while speaking to the robot next to them allows players to access the Cross-Versus Tutorials.

How Cross-Versus Works

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2_Cross-Versus_Tutorial

In Cross-Versus players are set to level one, their equipped outfit and/or QQ Bang has no effect on their stats, and they cannot bring Ultimate skills or Super Souls in with them. Players are still able to bring in their other skills, including evasion and awoken skills, allowing for a degree of customization in spite of these restrictions. Players are also not allowed to use items in a Cross-Versus match.

After joining a room and hitting "READY!" players will be grouped into two rival teams of three and dropped into a map. In this map are several enemies, collectibles, and other objectives that allow players to earn points. Earning enough points for the team in any way will cause players to level up, gaining a stat boost, with the level cap for this game mode being seven.

The goal in Cross-Versus is to either earn the target number of points before the opposing team does or to defeat the boss. A team's boss room will only become available when they have earned half of the target number of points, meaning that players are unable to rush the boss from the start and try to brute force it. The first team to reach the target number of points or defeat their boss will win.

How to Earn Mission Points

To Earn Mission Points in Cross-Versus players can defeat enemies, collect them off the ground by using their scouter to locate them, or complete one of two special mission objectives that are available in the mission area. More powerful enemies will spawn as the round continues, and these foes are worth more points when defeated.

The first special objective is known as "Crystal Demolition" and requires players to smash large crystals found scattered throughout the mission area. Breaking a Crystal and moving into the beam of light that appears where it was will earn Mission Points.

The second special objective "Point Rally" has players finding large glowing spots in the Mission Area that can be interacted with. Interacting with them causes glowing checkpoints to appear in the immediate area and flying through a checkpoint will earn Mission Points and cause that checkpoint to vanish. Once all the checkpoints have been hit by a member of the team, players will receive even more mission points.

How Players can Lose Mission Points

A player can lose mission points by being defeated, though they will respawn and will not lose any levels. This is the main way players can lose mission points, so It's important to not overextend. This is especially true since no items may be used in Cross-Versus. The place where players should be especially careful is the boss room since players from one team can enter the other team's boss room to assist the boss and cause trouble.

How to Get Ultimate Attacks in Cross-Versus

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2_Cross-Versus_Ultimate

Since players can't bring their own Ultimate Attacks into Cross-Versus, they must instead grab them inside the mission area. While flying around the mission area to complete objectives and fight NPCs players might spot items that are indicated with a blue question mark.

Collecting these will grant the player a random Ultimate attack. Collecting one when the player already has two ultimate attacks will give players the option to replace one of their existing ultimate attacks with the new one, with whatever skill is discarded being left behind for another player to pick up.

How to Win Cross-Versus

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2_Cross-Versus Finish

As mentioned earlier, there are two ways for players to win at Cross-Versus.

The first way to win is by gaining the target number of mission points before the enemy team, and this is also the safer of the two options to attempt. Players just need to keep racking up points as quickly as possible.

The second way to win is to defeat the boss, whose arena becomes accessible once a team has accrued half the target number of mission points. Players can then fly over to the gate leading to the boss room and try to fight the boss, though the boss is very strong and can be further aided by the rival team entering the boss arena, making this a risky but very rewarding alternative win condition.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is available for PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
