  • His Super Saiyan form struck fear into his enemies and allowed him to defeat powerful opponents like the Androids and Broly.
  • Vegeta's evolution continued with Super Saiyan Blue and the newly unlocked Ultra Ego, showcasing his overwhelming strength and surpassing even the gods.

Vegeta is arguably the best character in all of Dragon Ball, and he is perhaps the one to have undergone the most amount of development out of all the Z-Fighters. Starting his time in the series as an extremely powerful villain for Goku and friends to defeat, the Saiyan Prince has evolved into one of the most well-rounded characters in all of anime who serves to protect the planet that he once sought to destroy.

During his time in the Dragon Ball franchise, Vegeta has seen a lot of transformations that have made him a very deserving rival for Goku. Despite failing to be the one to become the Super Saiyan of legend, Vegeta has since then mastered this form and furthered his strength to incalculable levels that have turned him into one of the strongest characters in the franchise, so let's take a look at all of Vegeta's transformations.

Vegeta's first appearance in Dragon Ball Z was quite brief, but fans would eventually see how big of a threat this Saiyan truly was. This base form is what Vegeta used to fight in the Saiyan Saga as well as the subsequent Namek Saga.

Notable Feats

Despite this being the weakest form that the Prince has, he was still strong enough to destroy entire planets with just a wave of his fingers. He even fought Goku to a draw before transforming into his Great Ape form, proving himself to be more than a match for the Z-Fighters and a true threat to the Earth.

Great Ape Vegeta Almost Killed Goku

Vegeta using the Great Ape Form

First Appearance

Dragon Ball Z, episode 31, "Saiyan Sized Secret"

Debut Date

December 20, 1989

Story Arc

Saiyan Saga

After taking on a Kaioken x4 Kamehameha from Goku, Vegeta barely survives it and becomes furious at having his blood drawn by a lower-class warrior. This culminates in Vegeta forming a power ball and launching it into the sky to emulate the moon, triggering his transformation into a Great Ape, which gives him unparalleled destructive abilities.

Notable Feats

Despite being a towering monster, Vegeta remains surprisingly nimble and quick for the transformation, showing up behind Krillin and Gohan in the blink of an eye. He was so powerful that he crushed both of Goku's legs and his Galick Gun was enough to overpower Goku's Spirit Bomb, and even continued to crush Goku despite missing his right eye.

Vegeta Finally Achieves Super Saiyan

Single-Minded Offense Vegeta

First Appearance

Dragon Ball Z, episode 129, "Upgrade to Super Saiyan"

Debut Date

March 4, 1992

Story Arc

Android Saga

After seeing Goku unlock the form that had been foretold for centuries, Vegeta's frustration grew. After realizing that he too could achieve this form, Vegeta trained extensively, finally unlocking the Super Saiyan form to defeat the Androids. However, this showed that the legend of this form being unlocked by a pure-hearted Saiyan was not true, as everyone else feared what Vegeta could do with such power.

Notable Feats

In his Super Saiyan form, Vegeta's power was truly incredible. By claiming the legendary power of the Saiyans for himself, Vegeta struck fear into the heart of Android 19, a machine that shouldn't have been able to experience such emotions. He also used this form to easily defeat many minions of Babidi, as well as outclassing Broly early on in their fight.

Tell me; does a machine like yourself experience fear?

Super Vegeta Was Too Much For Cell

Vegeta using Final Flash

First Appearance

Dragon Ball Z, episode 155, "Super Vegeta"

Debut Date

September 2, 1992

Story Arc

Cell Saga

After suffering a defeat by Android 18 and finding out that greater power was needed for him to face off against Cell, Vegeta spent a year in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber with Trunks to get even stronger. What he ended up with was his Super Saiyan Second Grade or 'Super Vegeta' form, which was far stronger than regular Super Saiyan, but it sacrificed speed. However, the raw damage output was far greater and also gave a more muscular and bulky appearance.

Notable Feats

Vegeta only used this form in his fight against Semi-Perfect Cell, where he humiliated the Android due to how much stronger he was than him. Even after Cell transformed into his Perfect form, Super Vegeta's Final Flash almost killed the villain.

Majin/Super Saiyan 2 Vegeta Was Ruthless

Majin Vegeta

First Appearance

Dragon Ball Z, episode 229, "Vegeta's Pride"

Debut Date

June 15, 1994

Story Arc

Buu Saga

After Babidi awakens Majin Buu and spreads terror across the galaxy, Vegeta allows himself to get mind-controlled to awaken the unfeeling Saiyan attitude that he had back in his youth. In doing so, Vegeta unlocks his Majin Vegeta state, which goes on to kill many innocents and fight on par with Super Saiyan 2 Goku, as the Majin state exists in Vegeta's Super Saiyan 2 form.

Notable Feats

Majin Vegeta was able to fight on par with Super Saiyan 2 Goku and, through a cheap shot, won the fight. Later, he let out an incredible amount of energy and almost got rid of Majin Buu with his Final Explosion, but after reincarnating, fought Kid Buu for long enough to let Goku gather enough energy for a Spirit Bomb.

You may have invaded my mind and my body, but there's one thing a Saiyan always keeps... his pride!

Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F

Debut Date

April 18, 2015

Story Arc

Frieza's Resurrection Saga

After Dragon Ball's most iconic villain returned to the series in a golden form that made him more powerful than ever before, Goku stepped up to defeat the villain. However, due to a cheap shot, Goku was taken out, upon which Vegeta came in and beat Frieza by unveiling his new Super Saiyan Blue form, one that he and Goku used as the standard transformation for the rest of Super. In all the arcs of Dragon Ball Super, Vegeta used his Super Saiyan Blue to its fullest effect.

Notable Feats

Super Saiyan Blue was used by Vegeta to defeat Frieza on equal terms, showing the tyrant that he too has evolved since their last clash. This was the form that Vegeta had perfected and used to completely overpower Goku Black in their second meeting after training with Trunks and Goku, while also being the same form that Vegeta used to gain success in the Tournament of Power by knocking out many contestants.

I've been a Super Saiyan for years and now, I too have the power of a God.

Knowing that the power they have had before was not enough to contend with this foe, they both tap into something greater, with Goku stacking his Kaioken x20 on top of Super Saiyan Blue and Vegeta unlocking a new form altogether; the Evolved Super Saiyan Blue.

Notable Feats

Alongside Goku, this new form of Vegeta was strong enough to keep Jiren on his toes, proving to be a great enough threat for him to deal with. After Jiren, Vegeta went one-on-one with Toppo in his Destroyer form and ended up overpowering Universe 11's next deity, as well as doing very well against Moro and Granolah.

Debut Date

July 20, 2021

Story Arc

Granolah the Survivor Arc

Ultra Ego was the form that Vegeta took to house the power of the Destroyer Gods entrusted to him by Beerus. After initiating the fight with Granolah, who had just beaten Ultra Instinct Goku, Vegeta showed his new strength and unlocked the technique of the Gods, overpowering Granolah for a good time.

Notable Feats

Vegeta's new strength forced Granolah to unlock a new form. This is an amazing feat because Granolah's basic form defeated Ultra Instinct Goku in just one hit, and even then, Granolah's evolved form could only take out Vegeta if he sacrificed his life as well, showing how strong Ultra Ego truly is.
