The Saiyans are the central race in the world of Dragon Ball, with many of the strongest mortals in the multiverse belonging to this revered species. Though visually very similar to humans, Saiyans are far more powerful, owing to their warrior genes and practices that have made them some of the most feared people in the universe. The entire society of these people is broken down into several classes.

Typically, these classes are broken down into low, mid, and elite tiers, where the higher up the tiers one goes, the stronger the warrior is. As a result of this, the Royal Family of the Saiyan race are usually the ones with the highest power levels in Dragon Ball and the strongest characters at birth. So, let's take a look at the Saiyan Royal Family and see why they're so important!

What Is The Saiyan Royal Family?

King Vegeta ponders on his throne in Dragon Ball Super: Broly

Simply put, the Saiyan Royal Family is seen as the de facto rulers of the race and has the greatest degree of control over it as well. The Saiyan race has existed for millions of years, and they owe the initial part of their history to their original planet, which was named Sadala. However, at some point, a great civil war between the members of the Saiyan race broke out, which ended up destroying their original homeworld. Cabba even stated that while the Saiyans of Universe 6 are peaceful and still live on Sadala, they still have a Royal Family.

After these events, the remaining Saiyans would seek out another planet and eventually conquer it for themselves as a new home. This new planet originally belonged to a race called the Tuffles, which was later snuffed out by the Saiyans to make a home for themselves, one which they renamed 'Planet Vegeta' after the leader of their race led them to victory. This leader was none other than the current Prince Vegeta's father.

I am a Saiyan of royal blood. The last of my kind and on my shoulders rests the glory of an extinct warrior race!

A member of the Vegeta bloodline, he would officially establish the Royal Family of the planet after the defeat of the Tuffles. Though they acted under the rule of Frieza, the rulers still commanded the highest authority of all Saiyans, with King Vegeta being the supreme ruler of them all. While unclear exactly how old this family was, it still lasted at least 4 generations, with the current Vegeta's full name being Vegeta the Fourth. Every King and their firstborn son would share the same name, which was separated by whichever number they were in the line.

During the time of King Vegeta's rule, his planet and people were annexed by King Cold's army and subjugated to carry out their whims. Knowing he could not stand against the might of this army, King Vegeta pledged allegiance to it, saving his entire planet and people in the process. After the destruction of Planet Vegeta, Prince Vegeta and Prince Tarble are the only known direct survivors of this family.

Members Of The Saiyan Royal Family

Planet Vegeta

As of the destruction of Planet Vegeta, there are only 2 known members of the Royal Family to have survived it, since the blast by Frieza erased the entire planet and race in one fell swoop. Now, let's go over every named character that existed as a part of this family.

King Vegeta

King Vegeta with his followers

King Vegeta was the father of the current Vegeta that fans are familiar with. It was under his rule that the Saiyan race was forced to work under King Cold and Frieza, but this was a choice that saved millions of lives from being wiped by the power of the Frost Demons, though this happened later on regardless. Moreover, it was King Vegeta who led the revolution against the Tuffles, taking over their planet after a 10-year-long war.

Prince Vegeta

Prince Vegeta, or simply Vegeta, is the character that fans have fallen in love with over the years. Starting as a villain who came to Earth to defeat Goku and the rest of the Z-Fighters, Vegeta has since then made a name for himself as one of the Universe's most staunch protectors, rising to the level of the legendary Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan God. Now, Vegeta is one of the few candidates to replace Beerus as the next God of Destruction for Universe 7.

You may have invaded my mind and my body... but there's one thing a Saiyan always keeps... his pride!

Prince Tarble

Prince Tarble is unlike the rest of his family. Since he is peaceful and avoids confrontation, Tarble has since then become estranged from Vegeta, living far away from his older brother and lacking the natural aggression that is emblematic of Saiyans. Due to this perceived weakness from his father, he was banished from Planet Vegeta, though he still got along well with his older brother, and always thought highly of him.

Trunks and Bulla

Though the Saiyan race is almost finished and any title of a Royal Family is pretty much useless, Trunks and Bulla are still considered to be the next generation. Being the only children of Prince Vegeta, they share the same bloodline as his, so if he were to ever become the King of Saiyans, Trunks and Bulla would become a Prince and Princess of the Saiyan race respectively.
