Dragon Ball: The Breakers is the latest in a long line of asymmetrical multiplayer games that pit a group of helpless survivors against one deadly villain. Rather than the established movie and video game serial killers found in the genre's most popular offering though, the bad guy in The Breakers is one of Dragon Ball's most iconic villains.

Unfortunately, players won't get too many options to play as the raider in Dragon Ball: The Breakers due to the fact that there are eight players in each and every match. That's not to say that there aren't a few things that players can do to improve their chances though, which bodes well for anyone hoping to play as Frieza, Cell, or Majin Buu.

How to Play as the Raider in Dragon Ball: The Breakers

In theory, players will have a chance to be given the role of a survivor or the raider using the default settings. In practice, however, due to the way that matchmaking works in Dragon Ball: The Breakers, the chances of them becoming the raider using this setting are practically zero. This is because if even a single person in the lobby has set their preference to being the raider, they'll be given the role ahead of those who haven't.

To combat this, players should always set their preference to being the raider, which can be done by pressing the L1 (PlayStation) or LB (Xbox) button before matchmaking begins. Doing so will cycle between a dash (no preference), a smiley face (survivor), and an angry horned face (raider) and inform the game of the player's desired role. Sadly, this alone will not guarantee that players get to play as the raider in Dragon Ball: The Breakers.

Due to the huge number of people who set the raider as their preferred role, players won't always get to be the raider. For each match that they're not though, they'll receive one priority point, with these then being used to determine who gets to play as the raider. It will usually take around three or four games until players get to play as Cell, Buu, or Frieza, though could in theory take many more if they're unlucky with lobbies. After playing as the raider, the priority counter will be reset to zero.

How to Change Between Raiders

By default, players will be set to Cell or whichever character they last played as, but it is very easy to change raider. Players will simply need to press the Triangle (PlayStation) or Y (Xbox) button once they reach the briefing screen, after which, they'll be able to use up and down to choose which raider they want. At launch, only Cell, Frieza, and Majin Buu are available, though the developers have already announced that Great Ape Vegeta will be joining the roster in the not-too-distant future.

Dragon Ball: The Breakers is available on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.
