Highlights

  • Universe 7, with their newfound powers and techniques, would likely dominate a second Tournament of Power against the other universes.
  • Goku's True Ultra Instinct technique, perfected since the first tournament, allows him to fully utilize both defensive and offensive capabilities, making him even more effective.
  • Vegeta's Ultra Ego technique, though not yet perfected, gives him a tremendous boost in power and offensive capabilities, making him a great asset in the tournament.

The first Tournament of Power that officially started in Dragon Ball Super episode 97, "Survive! The Tournament of Power Begins at Last!" was probably the most significant event to have ever taken place in the entire history of the multiverse, where most of the universes were pitted to fight against one another so one could finally come out on top. The reason for this tournament was essentially for Grand Zeno to cull out the weaker universes and keep only the worthy ones. As we know, at the end our very own Universe 7 came out on top, where the Z-Fighters had to shatter their limits and work even harder to defeat the most powerful characters that we had seen up to that point, with Goku unlocking Ultra Instinct and Vegeta unlocking his Ascended Super Saiyan Blue form as well as unexpected teamwork from some teammates.

Now in the manga, a lot of time has passed since then and newer and even more powerful characters have shown up in the main story in Universe 7, causing Goku and friends to climb to even greater heights of strength. This has probably caused the overall mortal level of Universe 7 to increase even more as characters are at unfathomable levels of power, even compared to those that came before. If the Grand Zeno's ever get bored again or if there is another unforeseen turn of events that requires there to be another Tournament of Power, let's see how Universe 7 will fare if there is a second tournament.

How will Universe 7 Perform?

Team_Universe_7_color_manga

Right off the bat, it is fair to assume that Universe 7 would absolutely dominate the second tournament. Whereas the first Tournament of Power was a very close one that could have gone either way with Universe 11, the second one brings back our heroes wielding powers that the other universes may not even be prepared for. Following all the events that afterward, the Saiyans of Universe 7 got power ups that place them far beyond the strongest opponent in the tournament; Jiren the Gray.

While we saw Mastered Ultra Instinct Goku easily beat Jiren, Goku has since perfected and tailored the technique to himself to be most useful for him. With this True Ultra Instinct technique, Goku would be even more effective in the second tournament than he was in the first as he learnt to take all the strengths that came with Ultra Instinct and mix them with his natural Saiyan powers instead of discarding all emotions as the original form does. With this, he can fully utilize both defensive and offensive capabilities of Ultra Instinct in the second tournament, making it last for way longer and with less strain on the body. This was the biggest drawback of his first time using it against Jiren and with it being perfected, he would do even better this time around.

Other than that, Vegeta has unlocked a brand-new technique that puts him exactly on the same level as Goku; the terrifying Ultra Ego. With Ultra Ego, Vegeta was able to fight on par with, and even scare, Gas towards the end of the arc, who at the time the most powerful character we had ever seen. While Vegeta has yet to totally perfect it, Ultra Ego gave him a tremendous boost to his overall power and makes him the perfect offensive powerhouse. In the second tournament, any damage that Vegeta takes using this technique, whether directly or indirectly, would only strengthen his next attack, almost guaranteeing an elimination. In a setting like the Tournament of Power, with dozens of enemies located in all directions and attacks going all over the place, this technique would benefit Vegeta greatly.

The Impact of Broly

Dragon Ball Super Broly

Speaking of powerhouses, the one that fits the bill the most is the Legendary Super Saiyan himself, Broly. We have only really seen Broly in action in the 2018 movie, but we know for a fact that he is incredibly powerful and holds more potential than even Gohan, as he was able to greatly surpass both Goku and Vegeta's god forms and briefly went toe to toe against Gogeta. Plus, this was him fighting without any training and purely by his strength alone. As of the manga, Broly is undergoing training to properly control his LSS form and when he does, he may be even more powerful than Goku and Vegeta with their ultimate forms. Stated by Toriyama to be the strongest opponent that Goku and Vegeta have ever faced at that point, Broly may even be strong enough to take on the entire Tournament of Power by himself!

Moving on, we have many people's favorite hybrid Saiyan, Son Gohan. Despite scoring a very impressive total of 9 eliminations in the Tournament of Power, Gohan was said to have been out of action prior to it, so he was out of practice when it came to fighting. However, despite this, the events of the Dragon Ball movie, Super Hero, saw Gohan reaching his incredible Beast transformation, which catapulted him to a similar tier of power as Goku and Vegeta. This allowed him to take out the powerful Cell Max with frightening strength and speed. While we have only very briefly seen this form in the movie, it's fair to assume how strong it is due to how easily it defeated Cell Max, undoubtedly making Gohan a great asset if another Tournament of Power was ever to happen.

New Faces

Dragon Ball Super Super Hero – Orange Piccolo

Another product of the Super Hero movie, we have the brilliant new Orange Piccolo transformation which is one of the most beloved forms in the history of the franchise as it finally propels fan favorite Piccolo to a level of strength similar to the Saiyans. With this power up, Piccolo won't be left in the dust anymore and with its vast arsenal and incredible power, Piccolo becomes vastly more durable and can really make short work of many characters in the tournament. With his ability to become a giant and stretch his limbs, he greatly adds to his physical prowess and strength that can come into great use in the second tournament by giving him the ability to eliminate many opponents at the same time.

Gamma 1 is another great contender from the Super Hero movie that could potentially make the team. Since he is alive and is not really doing anything at this point in the story, Gamma 1 could fill a fairly minor role on the team as despite his lack of power, he is still the strongest Android. He was able to fight on par with Ultimate Gohan, who is even stronger than Super Saiyan 3 Goku and along with Majin Buu, Gamma 1 could fill the role of being the one to take out the relatively weaker opponents and play more of a support position.

The other person to play a minor support role in the story is Majin Buu. Whereas Buu was supposed to be in the first Tournament of Power, he slept through it, causing the Z-Fighters to recruit Frieza instead. Buu in his heavier 'fat' form is a character that was strong enough to force Goku to go Super Saiyan 3, and it was confirmed that Buu has the ability to train further and unlock an even stronger form that sees him as being taller and muscular. Since we have never seen it in action, we can only really speculate about how strong this form is but at the very least, it's on par with SS3 Goku, allowing it and Gamma 1 to play support roles against the comparatively weaker enemies.

Where Do Things Stand?

Granolah Dragon Ball Super

Another character that could join this 'what if...' team for the second Tournament of Power is Merus. Merus was once a candidate to become an angel and was the one who trained Goku to better wield the power of Ultra Instinct. However, upon choosing to engage in a battle with Moro, he went against the main rule of being an angel and was then demoted from his position. However, he still lives and is a master of Ultra Instinct and though we don't know whether his offense would be up to the mark, having another UI user would be of great help for Universe 7.

Penultimately, we have Granolah, a Cerelian that fought against Goku and Vegeta and was extremely powerful. Granolah was able to one-shot Ultra Instinct Goku using immaculate deception and went on to eventually overpower Ultra Ego, willing to exhaust all his power and sacrifice himself to put Vegeta down for good. Though he lost against Gas and does not have very long to live, Granolah would be an excellent addition to the team as he is one of the strongest characters in the entire series and using his extremely formidable 2 red eyes form/technique, he can fill a very crucial role in the team as a sniper. This would mean that Granolah could take out or weaken opponents from very far away, being far away from damage and helping out his team with great precision. Plus, Gamma 1 and Buu could act as guards to protect him from all sides as he snipes enemies from a distance.

Finally, we have Frieza who is the biggest wildcard on the team, as we saw even in the first Tournament. While it is easy to assume that Frieza may be disinterested, he would still join as his entire universe would be at stake, the same universe that he wants to rule. However, this is different from the first Tournament of Power because unlike then, Frieza could single-handedly win it for Universe 7. This is because in the manga, Frieza has unlocked what seems to be his ultimate form; Black Frieza, a transformation so powerful that it was able to completely incapacitate both Vegeta and Goku, who were in their strongest forms at the time. This was a level that the fans weren't sure was possible to achieve as Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego were divine techniques belonging to the Angels and Gods, so to see them outclassed by Frieza with just one punch was enough to put him on a level of power that no one can even think of reaching.

However, as stacked and powerful as Universe 7's team may look, we have no idea how powerful the fighters from the other universes have gotten in all this time as we just simply have never been shown. It is, however, fair to assume that these warriors would at least be on a similar level of strength to the strongest characters in Universe 7's team (aside from Frieza) to make the fights interesting. Plus, this isn't even taking into account the 4 universes that didn't participate in the last tournament because their mortal level was already extremely high. Whatever the case may be, the other universes have a lot of work and training to do to match up well against Universe 7.
