Ultra Instinct is one of the biggest known powers introduced in the Dragon Ball Super series. Although it debuted with the Angels quite some time ago, the usage of this ability was only demonstrated properly to the fans during the Tournament of Power arc, when Goku managed to tap into it as he fought against the mighty Jiren of Universe 11.

Ultra Instinct has, since then, become one of the most prevalent powers in the story. Each arc slowly gives fans more to know about this incredible power through the likes of Goku and other characters who wield it.

8 Its Power

Ultra Instinct is also known as the mastery of self-movement, which basically sums up what the power does very well. Using Ultra Instinct, the user gains the ability to automatically move as each of their body parts almost feel like they can think for themselves.

As such, the users of Ultra Instinct waste little to no time in thinking and dodging the attacks that are thrown their way, making this technique extremely efficient, as seen when Goku took on Jiren in the Tournament of Power using this ability.

Although Autonomous Ultra Instinct is an ability, some transformations help a user make better use of this power and, in doing so, strengthen themselves by several times.

The very first transformation of Ultra Instinct is known as "Ultra Instinct Sign," and this power allows the user to use the self-movement aspect of Ultra Instinct perfectly. However, its biggest weakness is that the offensive output is not nearly as good, making it quite weak when compared to its perfected form.

6 Perfected Ultra Instinct

Once the user grasps the concept of Ultra Instinct completely, they're able to tap into a completely whole level of power called Perfected Ultra Instinct. In this form, Goku gains silver hair, which is very similar to that of the Angels.

Goku used this form for the first time against Jiren and while using it, his offensive power was just as impressive as his defensive ability to dodge every single attack that Jiren threw at him. With its power, Goku completely overwhelmed Jiren.

Ultra Instinct is a very rare technique, so not a lot of people in the world of Dragon Ball possess the ability to tap into it. In fact, even among the Gods, this technique is considered to be incredibly difficult to master.

So far, the imperfect form of Ultra Instinct has been used by Beerus, while the Grand Priest, Angels, Goku, and Moro utilize the perfect form of this technique. In the manga, Master Roshi is also seen as being able to use Ultra Instinct, or a technique that is very similar to it, however, he can't use the transformation and can tap into just Autonomous Ultra Instinct momentarily instead.

4 Not Unbeatable

It goes without saying that Ultra Instinct is incredibly powerful, as seen on several occasions in the Dragon Ball Super manga now, however, it certainly isn't unbeatable. If a user of Ultra Instinct faces off against someone much stronger than them, then even their ability to automatically dodge anything thrown at them won't work.

In fact, if a sizeable difference in skill exists, the user will be targeted quite easily, which just goes to show that Ultra Instinct isn't all there is to fighting in Dragon Ball.

3 Its Risks

Ultra Instinct appears to be quite risky, especially for the mortals who learn this technique. In the anime, it is shown that a mortal without proper training in the art of Ultra Instinct will eventually feel the drawbacks of the technique.

This was evident when, in the Tournament of Power arc, Goku started bleeding from his back and could barely move after using Mastered Ultra Instinct. In more severe cases, it can even lead to the user's death. In the manga, however, the user doesn't face as severe repercussions and instead is just exhausted. Once trained properly, however, there are no downsides to using this power.

2 Ultra Instinct Time Limit

Although Ultra Instinct doesn't harm the user once they train in this art properly, it has other downsides, such as the time limit. Ultra Instinct cannot be maintained forever. As seen when Goku fought Granolah, this form cannot be maintained for long and with time, it starts getting weaker.

Whereas Goku was almost untouchable at the beginning of the fight, with time, his accuracy dropped to the point where Granolah gained the advantage once again. With more training, however, this power can be utilized without undergoing a transformation, which prevents the user's body from additional stress.

Grand Priest Dragon Ball Super

Perfecting Ultra Instinct doesn't mean that the technique cannot be improved further. In fact, even after Goku has mastered Perfected Ultra Instinct, his skill with it is still considered to be not very good when compared to the likes of the Angels.

Even Merus was not the best user of this ability. Whis is known to be much more skilled than both Merus and Goku when it comes to using Ultra Instinct and the strongest user of this power at the moment is none other than the Grand Priest, whose skills far surpass that of his children and all the other imperfect users of this power as well.
