New scans from a Japanese magazine have shown off some of Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero's latest additions to the large roster, which include the fan favorite Saiyan characters of Goten, Kid Trunks, Kale, and Caulifla. These scans also give some insight regarding the upcoming game's mechanics, which include team battles and mid-battle fusions. These are all classic gameplay features from the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi series that have been retained for Sparking Zero.

Many fans anticipating the release of Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero have been keeping a close eye on both its roster and gameplay features. Considering past Budokai Tenkaichi games have sported huge rosters of characters from across the franchise, many are looking forward to seeing which fighters will make the cut for Sparking Zero. Another gameplay feature that fans have been keeping their ear to the ground on is how fusion works, as past Budokai Tenkaichi games allowed players to fuse certain characters during team battles, unlike more recent Dragon Ball games like FighterZ that make the fusions their own separate characters. New scans confirm that these mechanics will be returning in Sparking Zero.

Predicting Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero's Release Date

While the launch date of Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero has yet to be confirmed, the context of its upcoming release indicates a likely window.

This information was shared in the Japanese magazine V-Jump, with translated scans of the pages being shared by Ryuujtik and ShonenGameZ on Twitter. Like the previous scans and pre-release material released for the game, the characters revealed were based on a theme, with this one being "New Generation Saiyans." This theme refers to the kid versions of Goten and Kid Trunks, along with the new female Saiyans from Dragon Ball Super, Kale and Caulifla. The scans also reveal the Super Saiyan transformations and signature moves that the characters can use.

New Characters Confirmed for Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero

  • Goten (Base, Super Saiyan)
  • Kid Trunks (Base, Super Saiyan)
  • Kale (Base, Controlled Legendary Super Saiyan)
  • Caulifla (Base, Super Saiyan)
  • Gotenks (Super Saiyan)
  • Kefla (Super Saiyan 2)

The scans also confirm that the Fusion characters in Sparking Zero are not only playable characters, but are a mechanic. In past Budokai Tenkaichi games, fusions were a dedicated gameplay feature that could be done by having the two constituent characters on a team, then executing a command to fuse them. Sparking Zero retains both of these features, sporting a 5v5 team mode that players can engage in. The scans also confirm that Super Saiyan Gotenks and Super Saiyan 2 Kefla will be in the game's roster.

While Kale was already confirmed to be a part of Sparking Zero's roster, it only showed her Berserk Legendary Super Saiyan form. These scans of Sparking Zero also detail how each character is categorized, such as Goten being best for close combat encounters with his Rush techniques, while Kid Trunks is best at long-range fighting with his ki attacks. Kale specializes in long-range attacks with her Super Saiyan transformations increasing both her attack and defense, while Caulifla's Super Saiyan form increases her offensive abilities.
