Highlights

  • Granolah prioritizes long-range combat and relies on precise Ki attacks, making him unique among Dragon Ball fighters.
  • Granolah's Red Right Eye enhances his overall strength and accuracy, allowing him to fight from a distance and read his opponents' movements.
  • Granolah's ability to target vital points and use telekinesis further adds to his formidable and versatile fighting style.

Dragon Ball Super introduced Granolah in the recent story arc bearing his name. In this arc, the entire balance of power within Universe 7 was changed, as new characters were introduced that were more powerful than any who came before and some existing characters refined their strength and transformations to such a degree that they eclipsed everyone else in the story. Along with this new strength, unique powers and abilities for some characters were shown as well.

Granolah falls into that latter category. During his time in Dragon Ball Super, Granolah was shown to be as strong as both Goku and Vegeta and at certain points, his strength was even greater. Unlike most enemies in the story, Granolah's abilities differ greatly as he relies on precision and strategy in fights rather than brute strength. For this reason, Granolah was an extremely tricky and formidable opponent, so let's break down his powers.

Granola's Unique Use of Ki Makes For More Precise Attacks

Granolah is a fighter that greatly prioritizes long-range combat, acting more like a sniper on the battlefield as opposed to an all-out brawler. This is something that greatly separates him from most of the fighters in the world of Dragon Ball because, throughout the series, most of the enemies that the Z-Fighters have gone up against have prioritized close-quarters combat.

Granolah was someone who put himself directly out of danger, instead using his concentrated and powerful Ki attacks from a distance. His Ki was focused into tiny points at the edge of his fingers, allowing for very concentrated blasts of Ki that could pierce through his opponents very easily and rupture vital organs in doing so.

Granolah's Red Right Eye Isn't Just For Show

The reason why Granolah's long-ranged combat works perfectly well with his precise and concentrated Ki blasts is because of his Red Right Eye. This is a trait unique to all Cerealians and allows them to greatly increase their overall strength and accuracy, letting them fight from miles away. This ability is essential when it comes to leaning into Granolah's combat utility as a sniper.

The Red Right Eye was shown to be in its prime usage in Granolah's battles against both Goku and Vegeta. In these fights, he was able to target and hurt the heroes from far away using his impressive Ki control and blasts. Since Granolah's Red Right Eye is greatly enhanced due to his wish as compared to the rest of his race, he could also read the blood flow and muscle movements of Goku, letting him land a clean hit on Ultra Instinct.

Granolah's evolved right eye gave him precision and power greater than any other member of his race, even though this trait was a common one shared by every Cerealian. However, when Ultra Ego Vegeta's power proved to be far superior to Granolah's, he broke through his potential and unlocked the power up for his left eye as well, something which allowed him to overpower the Saiyan Prince.

In their battle, Vegeta launched a massive ball of destructive power toward the Cerealian that was powerful enough to completely eviscerate the nearby city. However, Granolah just then unlocked his new form and fired a blast that tore through Vegeta's attack and towards the end of their fight, Granolah charged up an attack that was powerful enough to kill the Prince but, in turn, would kill him too. This attack was not achievable in his base form.

Granolah's Ability to Target Vital Points Can Get Passed Ultra Instinct

Another power that Granolah gained because of his Red Right Eye and the decades of experience he spent as a bounty hunter was the knowledge of various vital points on the bodies of his opponents. Since his eyes also gave him the ability to read the blood flow and muscle movements, he could accurately predict where the opponent would go next and where their vital points were, allowing him to target them from a distance or even close up.

Once these vital points were hit, they could take down an opponent in one hit or even kill them. During his fight against Goku, Granolah read past the Ultra Instinct form and was able to hit a vital point by dashing to the Saiyan instantly. This knocked Goku out and depleted all of his stamina, after which he required a Senzu Bean to get back to his original state.

Cloning Can Make Him Tough in a One-on-One Fight... But They're Also Weaker

Another aspect of his arsenal that truly sets Granolah apart is his ability to create very powerful clones of himself. This, again, plays into the rest of his move set as a sniper, as he can create these clones as a diversion to keep his enemies distracted, during which he can perch at a distance and fire off Ki blasts toward his enemies from a relatively safer distance.

Granolah's fight against Ultra Instinct Goku at the very earliest stages of the fight showed his mastery of this technique as well as his true power with it. While the clone was far weaker than Granolah due to him dividing his power to make it, it was enough to contend with Goku for a short time until he was able to sneak up and target the Saiyans' vital point. He used his cloning move once again in his fight against Gas.

Telekinesis Helps Granolah Close The Gap Against Stronger Fighters

Rounding off Granolah's varied moveset is his ability to use telekinesis. Especially in his fight against Vegeta, Granolah was shown to throw entire buildings and massive rubble towards the Saiyan and when the same was done towards him, he was able to intercept the debris with his telekinetic powers. Though he isn't the first character from Dragon Ball to show this ability, it does add to his varied and powerful move set.

Granolah is a powerful and important character that fans have not seen the last of. Towards the end of the arc, he turned to the side of the heroes, with many fans theorizing that he would play an important role in a second Tournament of Power if it ever was to happen, adding another powerhouse to the roster of Universe 7.

Dragon Ball can be streamed on Crunchyroll and Funimation.
