The characters of the Dragon Ball series have fought a lot of battles against some pretty tough opponents. Some fights might be short while others are long, but there’s one thing that most of them will have: lots of powerful battle cries. Whether from pain or powering up, the characters certainly have a strong pair of lungs.

It is one of the things that the fights are known for. Kudos must be given to the voice actresses and actors for being able to bring the intensity of these screams to the screen for fans. Whether it’s because of the emotional impact of the situation or just the sheer volume of it, some screams in Dragon Ball are more memorable than others.

10 Tien Deserves A Little Respect For His Efforts

Dragon Ball Tien Shinhan vs. Cell

Tien gets very little screen time as it is, so he has to make his appearances count. During the Cell Saga, Tien managed to hold Cell back while he was in his Semi-Perfect form to give Androids 16 and 18 time to run away. His screams weren’t the loudest, but each scream he let out to use his Neo Tri-Beam was nail-biting. Everyone, including Tien, knew he didn’t stand a chance, but he still tried.

Tien put his all into each beam and managed to knock Cell back quite a bit. However, with each beam, Tien was closer and closer to having no power left and being at Cell’s mercy. Luckily, he lives to fight another day, and participates in the Cell Games.

9 Don’t Mess With Vegeta’s Pride And Bride

Dragon Ball Vegeta Screams At Beerus

Vegeta and Bulma’s relationship might not be all lovey-dovey, but it’s obvious the two of them care for each other and love their children. Fans were shocked to see Vegeta beg Beerus not to do anything to Bulma after she told the God of Destruction off. Though it was just a slap, it was enough to knock Bulma out and cause Vegeta to go berserk. He lets out a scream at the god and attacks him very quickly.

Vegeta might not always show his feelings for her, but this showed that Bulma is very important to him. Vegeta doesn’t often lose his cool when it comes to people around him, but he will hurt whoever hurts his loved ones.

8 Master Roshi Proves Himself To Anyone Doubting Him

Dragon Ball Master Roshi Kamehameha Tournament of Power

Master Roshi hasn’t gotten much time to shine since the Dragon Ball days, but he proves he is still an excellent fighter in Dragon Ball Super. He is one of the chosen fighters for Universe 7’s team for the Tournament of Power. Despite not seeing much action in the overall series, Master Roshi still has decades of experience under his belt. His fight with Ganos takes a toll on him, and Roshi is left with no other option than to use a Kamehameha that uses all of his energy (life energy included).

After giving a small speech to Goku and Krillin, Roshi lets out a short but memorable scream as he shoots a Kamehameha. Goku has fired the Kamehameha numerous times (at louder volumes too), but Roshi’s blast has a different emotional impact. Even Beerus was impressed, and he’s one tough critic.

7 Goku Won’t Let Beerus Destroy The World

Dragon Ball Goku vs. Beerus Battle of Gods

The fight between Goku and Beerus was an intense one. With the fate of the world on the line, Goku was determined to not let the God of Destruction win. Goku lets out cries throughout the fight, but his scream when he turned into a Super Saiyan was the most memorable.

Goku makes it clear that he won’t let Beerus destroy the world, and does a great job of fighting him. The whole fight was filled with screams, mostly from Goku, and they showed just how high the stakes were.

6 Broly Powered Up In Epic Fashion

Dragon Ball Broly Powering Up

Dragon Ball Super: Broly brought back Broly, one of the Dragon Ball strongest villains to appear in the movies, and made him canon. Frieza brought Broly and his father Paragus to Earth, hoping that Broly would be strong enough to take on Goku and Vegeta.

Knowing that he would need to become a Super Saiyan to defeat them, Frieza kills Paragus. Broly lets out a scream and powers up to a Super Saiyan — nearly destroying the entire surrounding area. If that didn’t shake viewers, the visuals might do it.

5 Goku Achieves Super Saiyan 3

Dragon Ball Goku Super Saiyan 3

Goku has set the standard high when it comes to transforming into Super Saiyan. Just when it seems the limit has been set, Goku proves he can surpass it. To stand a chance against Majin Buu, Goku shows that he can go beyond Super Saiyan 2. It was the highest known form for the Saiyans at the time, but he showed there’s more to achieve.

For about three and a half minutes, Goku lets out a loud and long scream as he powers up, intense enough that it was felt around the world and beyond. It rumbled the ground, ocean waves were crashing into each other, and King Kai (in the afterlife) even begged Goku to stop. After he’s done, Goku shows off his Super Saiyan 3 form.

4 Vegeta Sacrifices Himself

Dragon Ball Vegeta's Sacrifice

Vegeta isn’t known for his kindness, and is shown to be selfish throughout most of Dragon Ball Z. However, he chooses to make the ultimate sacrifice to try and keep his family safe. During the Majin Buu Saga, Vegeta knocks Goku out and sets off to stop Buu by himself. Piccolo informs him that he might not be able to come back to life, but this doesn’t stop Vegeta.

The Prince of Saiyans blows himself up and lets out a scream, showing he’s doing it for Bulma and Trunks. It was one of the few scenes that shows Vegeta’s caring side, demonstrating he isn't such a bad guy after all.

3 Goku Turns Into The First Super Saiyan

Dragon Ball Goku Turns Into A Super Saiyan

This moment remains memorable for every Dragon Ball fan. Seeing his comrades die at the hands of Frieza slowly pushed Goku to the edge. It wasn’t until he saw his best friend Krillin die that Goku finally snapped — but in a good way. The way the background darkened and lightning striking around him told fans that something big was coming. When Goku let out a scream and transformed into the first Super Saiyan, everything changed.

The scream itself wasn’t long, but its emotional impact was intense. It was a turning point in the overall series. Goku had gone to a level that was thought to be a legend, and showed he wasn’t done getting stronger.

2 Gohan’s Anger Unleashed

Dragon Ball Gohan's Anger Unleashed Cell Saga

Since his debut, Gohan’s true power was waiting to appear. Goku knew that his son was the only one capable of defeating Cell in his Perfect form. Gohan just needed a push, but it came at a heavy cost. Android 16 had become an ally to the Z Fighters and didn’t show the same aggression as 17 and 18 did. 16 tried to help, but ultimately failed and was smashed to bits by Cell. Yet Android 16 was still alive, and used his last moments to say some encouraging words to Gohan.

After Cell crushed his head and killed him, Gohan’s anger was unleashed and he achieved Super Saiyan 2. This form gave him the power to defeat Cell.

1 Future Gohan’s Death Triggers Future Trunks

Dragon Ball Future Trunks The History of Trunks

Future Trunks has not had an easy life, and the movie Dragon Ball Z: This History of Trunks shows this. With Future Gohan as the only surviving member of the Z Fighters, he trains Future Trunks and hopes that they’ll stop Androids 17 and 18 one day. Unfortunately, Gohan’s attempts to get Trunks to turn into a Super Saiyan don’t work. After knocking Trunks out, Gohan valiantly fought against the androids alone, but was killed in battle.

His death would trigger Trunks into turning into a Super Saiyan, and the scream he lets out is probably the most anguished in the whole series. Unlike the present timeline, Future Trunks’ timeline didn’t have the luxury of the Dragon Balls. Once someone dies in his timeline, they have no hope of revival. This made Future Gohan’s death and Trunks’ story all the more tragic.
