Warning: Spoilers for Dragon Age: The Veilguard below.

Highlights

  • Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain are the main antagonists in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, not Solas as previously expected.
  • Players may actually work with Solas against his fellow gods, who were freed from prison in the early game.
  • The Lighthouse in the Fade will act as the base for The Veilguard, while Solas will have a major role in the game's plot twists.

According to some new information from Game Informer, the main antagonists of Dragon Age: The Veilguard are Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain – two prominent elvish gods. While Dragon Age: The Veilguard led many to believe Solas would be the major villain, it seems like fans may actually end up working with him against two of his fellow Pantheon members.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is the long-awaited sequel to Dragon Age: Inquisition, which first introduced players to Solas, now revealed to be Fen’Harel, the Dread Wolf and trickster god of the Elves. Considering his prominence in Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s marketing – and the fact the game was called Dragon Age: Dreadwolf until recently – many fans expected Solas to be the main villain of the game.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Reveals Details About Combat and Character Features

The recent Q&A for Dragon Age: The Veilguard answers plenty of burning questions, such as the number of abilities and the complexity of its combat.

However, it now seems like players might have to deal with more than just Solas in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Game Informer recently ran a special story on Dragon Age: The Veilguard in Issue 367 of its digital magazine, beginning on page 28. The piece covered topics ranging from character creation to gameplay, but one part in particular revealed some new plot details from the early game. Apparently, Rook’s actions depicted in the gameplay reveal trailer end up trapping Solas in the Fade, while freeing the elven gods Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain from their prison – assumedly the two figures seen briefly near the tear in the Veil. It will then fall to the Veilguard to stop them.

Who Are the Antagonists of Dragon Age: The Veilguard?

Elgar’nan is the god of vengeance and the sun and leads the Evanuris – the elvish pantheon in Dragon Age. He is known to be wrathful and uncompromising and is believed to be the reason dwarves largely live underground and fear the sun. Meanwhile, Ghilan’nain is the goddess of hunters, navigation, and the mother of the halla and many of the monsters of the Dragon Age world. Needless to say, given they were previously imprisoned by Solas, these gods gaining their freedom sounds like bad news.

Game Informer’s piece also introduces The Lighthouse, a special realm in the Fade that was once the lair of the Dread Wolf.

Like Skyhold in Dragon Age: Inquisition , The Lighthouse will act as a base of operations for The Veilguard as the game progresses.

While Solas will play a major role in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, it sounds like he will not actually be the main antagonist. Instead, the Veilguard may actually have to work with the Dread Wolf after foiling his plans in the beginning of the Dragon Age: The Veilguard – though they may just as easily have to oppose him again later on in the game. Either way, it seems Dragon Age: The Veilguard will have plenty of plot twists and turns for players to discover once it releases later this year.
