Dragon Age lore is complicated, but Dragon Age: Dreadwolf could resolve one of its biggest mysteries to date: what all lies beyond the Veil. As many know, Solas created the Veil once upon a time to seal away the Evanuris, but for much of humanity, it seems they’ve only ever known of this division. Beyond the Veil is the world of spirits and demons, terrible monstrosities, and a city, once known to humanity as the Golden City, now known as the Black City.

It is here where the Maker once sat, where Tevinter supposedly corrupted it and created the Darkspawn/Blights unintentionally, but there are serious questions about what this city actually is or ever was. For example, some believe it is the seat of the Old Gods, some believe it used to be the Seat of the Maker (who abandoned it), and there’s some chance that the Evanuris are at play here too. Fans may find out in Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.

Indeed, it’s further worth noting that Corypheus claimed the seat/city to be empty upon the old Tevinter Magisters' arrival. But, however the mystery is resolved, it’s likely to be a genuinely terrifying location. There’s no telling for sure that it’ll appear in the next game, but given Solas’ plan to tear down the veil, it seems possible. After all, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf's subtitle is an anagram for Fade World.

With Dragon Age: Dreadwolf likely in development on PS5 and Xbox Series X, fans can likely expect a huge graphical upgrade. Val Royeaux in Dragon Age: Inquisition was impressive, but Tevinter's Minrathous could top it in terms of beauty. On the other hand, the Black City could take all of this in a different description. Official descriptions of the Black City are terrifying, based on what few have seen of it. It should be noted that it appears in the far background, ever present but unreachable, when the Inquisitor and the Warden are in there, but no one has ever been there and returned okay (Corypheus and his kin became Darkspawn).

The Black City is described as a home of darkness and nightmares, with twisted spires that are cold and stained, with gates that will never open. The Black City is said to be avoided by the most powerful spirits and demons, and that there is no heaven for souls to pass after death. Every official description and detail about it sounds like it’s something straight out of a horror game, and unless there is some big twist to its design, that’s exactly what it should be – the Black City section of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf should be a terrifying, horror-like experience.
