Highlights

  • Speculation on Dreadwolf's release window is feasible based on BioWare's history of launching major titles in November or March.
  • Players can anticipate traveling to Tevinter, the Anderfels, Rivain, and Antiva in the upcoming Dragon Age: Dreadwolf game.

It has been nearly nine years since development for BioWare's Dragon Age: Dreadwolf began, having gone on this long mostly due to staff turnovers, delays, and changes to the fundamental design of the game. However, 2024 is finally Dreadwolf's year, as BioWare will be doing an official Dragon Age: Dreadwolf reveal this summer — possibly on June 7. It's unclear yet what will be revealed during the summer event, but a trailer and release date are expected. That may not be all that Dragon Age: Dreadwolf has to offer this year, either, as recent reports have suggested a possible 2024 release for the game.

In episode 339 of Game Mess Decides, Jeff Grubb made claims that BioWare was aiming for a late 2024 release for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. While this has not been officially confirmed, anything is possible at this point, especially with the big reveal happening this summer. Whether Dreadwolf is released this year or next, it’s possible to speculate on a potential release window for it based on BioWare's release history, especially when it comes to some of its biggest games.

Predicting Dragon Age: Dreadwolf’s Release Window

BioWare’s Release Pattern Makes Dreadwolf’s Launch Date Somewhat Predictable

It has been five years since BioWare's last IP, Anthem, launched and almost a decade since its last Dragon Age title, so Dragon Age: Dreadwolf has been a long time coming. For the most part, there is a fairly predictable pattern in BioWare's release dates, which makes it all the more possible to speculate on a possible release window for Dreadwolf, even if it isn’t released until 2025:

  • Shattered Steel (September 27, 1996)
  • Baldur's Gate (December 21, 1998)
  • MDK2 (March 31, 2000)
  • Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn (September 21, 2000)
  • Neverwinter Nights (June 18, 2002)
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (July 16, 2003)
  • Jade Empire (April 12, 2005)
  • Mass Effect (November 20, 2007)
  • Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood (September 25, 2008)
  • Mass Effect Galaxy (June 22, 2009)
  • Dragon Age: Origins (November 3, 2009)
  • Mass Effect 2 (January 26, 2010)
  • Dragon Age 2 (March 8, 2011)
  • Dragon Age Legends (March 16, 2011)
  • Mass Effect 3 (March 6, 2012)
  • Dragon Age: Inquisition (November 18, 2014)
  • Mass Effect: Andromeda (March 21, 2017)
  • Anthem (February 22, 2019)
  • Mass Effect Legendary Edition (May 14, 2021)

Apart from a few outliers, titles from BioWare's biggest franchises — namely, Dragon Age and Mass Effectare generally released in either November or March. These are both fairly typical release windows for AAA games, taking advantage of the holiday and spring seasons. Based on this launch pattern, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf's release window seems all but clear.

When Dragon Age: Dreadwolf Could Be Released

When considering BioWare's launch pattern, there are two different possible release windows for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. If Jeff Grubb's reports are true, and BioWare is aiming for a late 2024 release for Dreadwolf, it may launch sometime in November 2024. On the other hand, if BioWare opts for a later release, it likely wouldn’t be any later than 2025. With Dreadwolf's full reveal happening this summer, BioWare could be planning to release the game very soon.

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf's official release date hasn’t been officially disclosed, but it more than likely will be during the game's full reveal this summer. Additionally, as BioWare has made it clear that Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is being developed with newcomers in mind, those who have yet to experience Dragon Age may find a home in Dreadwolf as well.
