It's been a while since BioWare announced Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, and even longer since gamers were able to play a new mainline installment in the fan-favorite fantasy series. With the next entry confirmed to be in development way back in 2018, players have had plenty of time to speculate about the upcoming title, and there has been a multitude of different theories about Dragon Age: Dreadwolf and its content. BioWare has released some details and behind the scenes looks to tide fans over, but things have been a little quiet on the update front lately.

The fourth main entry in the Dragon Age series only had its official name revealed in recent months, which may seem like a small detail, but this did confirm a few suspicions and indicate a direction for the game's narrative. Despite these breadcrumbs and other intriguing bits of information that the developer has let drop, fans are still thirsty for more details regarding the upcoming RPG. The next trailer is undoubtedly on the horizon, and there is a list of things that players would like to see covered in the newest look at the game.

Leliana, Cullen, and Josephine at the Winter Palace.

From what BioWare has confirmed and through a variety of smaller details, fans have been able to piece together a few things about Dragon Age: Dreadwolf and the narrative ground that it will likely cover. From the trailer shown during the Game Awards 2020, it appears as if series regular Varric Tethras may be making another appearance in Dragon Age: Dreadwolf if the voiceover is anything to go by. Some other characters, particularly from Dragon Age: Inquisition like the Tevinter mage Dorian, may also return thanks to the setting of the upcoming game, but none of this has been completely confirmed yet.

Both Varric and Dorian are popular characters with Dragon Age fans, so it could be a nice way to tie the entries together and provide a pleasing callback for returning players if they feature in the next game. Dragon Age: Dreadwolf will also be the first direct sequel in the series so far, so bringing back a few of the characters from the last entry definitely makes sense not only as a nod to fans but also for narrative cohesion.

Many players may be wondering what the fates were of their companions after Dragon Age: Inquisition, and their past relationships with the main antagonist Solas raise a lot of questions about how they'll deal with the renegade mage's long-awaited return as he puts his plans into action. Solas' betrayal is a fallout of the last game, but fans will also be wondering what else will carry over from Dragon Age: Inquisition and its DLC, especially as gamer choices had such a profound affect. The next trailer should cover the fate of the Inquisition at least, if not its primary members and former associates of Solas.

Showing Off The New Setting

Tevinter Minrathous Dragon Age

One of the things that players have been most excited about in the upcoming Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is its setting. While the Tevinter Imperium has been a prominent location throughout Dragon Age lore, it's never actually appeared in a game as a visitable region. Characters like Dorian hail from the area, and as the oldest human nation in Thedas, it holds a lot of interest for many. Unlike other countries and areas in Thedas, Tevinter is a magocracy where magic users are not only respected but also rule the hierarchical society.

This is in sharp contrast to a lot of the other settings that gamers have been able to explore throughout the previous Dragon Age games, and this unique aspect about its society alone makes it a narratively intriguing place. Tevinter's capital city of Minrathous is also a fascinating location that players are eager to explore, and it looks like the developers might be utilizing more of a steampunk fantasy aesthetic for this bustling fictional metropolis in contrast to the more traditional designs of other Dragon Age cities. The next trailer could do a deeper dive into the warren of streets in Tevinter's capital, and show off just how visually different Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is turning out to be.

A Fresh Cast Of Characters

Companions are arguably the most important characters in a Dragon Age game. They can make or break the gameplay, alleviate the boredom of exploring vast swathes of wilderness with their endearing and humorous banter, or provide the meaningful relationships that exist at the heart of each game to humanize the diverse cast of adventurers. Everyone will have their personal favorites, but popular additions like Cassandra, Alistair, Morrigan, Iron Bull, and Fenris really helped to show off each games' writing and storytelling strengths.

As such, the bar is already very high for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf's companions. A few fans are hoping for unique characters as well as likeable ones, and from a few teased images and details it seems like BioWare is aiming to deliver a diverse roster with previously unseen companion characters like a female qunari. This bodes well, but a new trailer could really flaunt these new companions in greater detail.

While Solas is undoubtedly the main focus of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf thanks to his character arc in the previous game and the title of the upcoming one, fans are wondering if there might be more antagonistic forces at play. Without giving too much away, the next trailer for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf could answer some lingering questions and explore the threats that players will be up against in greater depth to put a few theories to bed – or even ignite a fresh batch.

It's not completely clear when fans will get the next Dragon Age: Dreadwolf trailer, but many are betting on a release during the next Game Awards towards the end of the year. This fits BioWare's pattern for previous games, and seems like a sensible suggestion given that rumors suggest Dragon Age: Dreadwolf may be set to launch sometime in 2023.
