It has been nearly nine years since the fourth mainline Dragon Age installment was announced, as unfortunate delays and staff turnovers have carried its release into 2024 and possibly beyond. During this rather lengthy window, Spiders released the cult hit GreedFall, an old-school BioWare-esque RPG that has grown increasingly popular since its release in 2019. Now, GreedFall 2: The Dying World is slated for a 2024 release, and fans anticipating the release of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf shouldn't turn a blind eye to it.

GreedFall and the Dragon Age franchise share a plethora of similarities, which makes sense considering Spiders intentionally modeled its game after BioWare's most famous RPGs. In light of that, as Spiders assuredly aims to make GreedFall's sequel an even better experience, those looking forward to Dragon Age: Dreadwolf will likely find everything they need and more in GreedFall 2, once it releases.

Why GreedFall 2 Will Be the Perfect Game for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf Fans

GreedFall Gives Special Attention to Its Characters

One of the key features of any Dragon Age title is the depth of each game's meticulously crafted characters and how BioWare incorporates them into its world-building. The companions in each Dragon Age game all boast distinct personalities, compelling backstories, and moral compasses unique to them. GreedFall is no different, as its characters are just as rich as those of any Dragon Age title.

The characters of GreedFall are fully fleshed out, each with a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures that make them unique. They each come with their own pre-dispositions that can either add to or subtract from the player's convictions, a notable characteristic that ultimately adds to the quality of the overall narrative. Suffice it to say, fans of Dragon Age's characters should look no further than those in GreedFall 2.

GreedFall's Quests Are Brilliantly Designed

An area that GreedFall might have a leg up in compared to the most recent Dragon Age titles is in its quest design. Whereas many of the side quests in Dragon Age: Inquisition felt empty and repetitive, each one of GreedFall's secondary quests is rather deep and effortlessly keeps the player engaged. This is not to say that Dragon Age's quests are mediocre by any means, but they do fall short of GreedFall in many ways. Bearing that in mind, GreedFall 2 is likely to maintain Spiders' glowing reputation in quest design.

Politics Are the Driving Force Behind GreedFall's Overarching Narrative

The Dragon Age franchise has always held politics at the center of its conflict, using racial tensions and power struggles to emphasize the player's role. Dragon Age's overarching narrative has revolved around a variety of factions, each with its own political agenda, to force its players into difficult confrontations where their choices ultimately shape their relationships and alliances, as well as the world around them. Spiders took a very similar approach in GreedFall's narrative, as the entire story is fueled by political turmoil.

Similarly to Dragon Age, GreedFall's political struggles force the player's convictions into play, as they must realize how broad the implications of their choices are. It's nearly impossible to go anywhere in GreedFall without encountering a racist or a power-hungry noble, and players must thoughtfully consider how their decisions will impact the relationships they've built with their companions and the overall story. This was a significant part of what made GreedFall so successful, so it will undoubtedly show itself in GreedFall 2 in an even bigger way.

The structure and ongoing success of GreedFall is very telling of where the franchise is headed in its sequel. In light of that and the similarities it shares with the Dragon Age franchise, fans looking forward to Dragon Age: Dreadwolf should be on the lookout for GreedFall 2 throughout 2024. At the very least, it will serve as a placeholder for the fourth Dragon Age title until it arrives.
