There are certainly games with longer and more troubled development cycles than Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, but fans have been awaiting its arrival for many years. While BioWare has yet to show off a proper gameplay demonstration, the studio has not left fans entirely in the dark about the upcoming game. Recent leaks have also shed new light on the long-awaited Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, including details about early teased characters like Davrin.

While leaks should be taken with a grain of salt, thus far information about the characters that players will be adventuring with in the upcoming game have been revealed, such as Dragon Age: Inquisition party members like Dorian and Varric returning in some capacity. At the same time, teaser trailers and concept art offered fans some idea of who is filling out the rest of the party. Notably, the Dragon Age: Dreadwolf leak in February 2023 confirms the identity of a mysterious new character.

BioWare’s First Mention of Davrin

Dragon Age fans first learned the name Davrin in August 2020 when EA's Gamescom showcase included a behind-the-scenes look at Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. While the presentation didn't reveal as much as fans might have wanted, it at least featured plenty of concept art to pick over. The trailer also featured short clips of voice actors Gareth David-Lloyd, Jee Young Han, and Ike Amadi recording lines for their characters Solas, Bellara, and Davrin, respectively.

Dragon Age fans are well familiar with Solas, the game's titular Dreadwolf. However, this was the first time that anyone outside BioWare heard about the other upcoming characters. While not much has been said about Bellara, Davrin's early voice lines confirm he is one of Dragon Age's Grey Wardens.

Davrin's Identity in Dragon Age: Dreadwolf

The name Davrin didn't crop up again until the Dragon Age: Dreadwolf leak from early February, in which Reddit user revanchisto claimed to have seen a video of alpha gameplay. He later provided several links to images and a gif of combat, though these were later removed. The gameplay segment took place in the Grey Warden's Weisshaupt Fortress, with player battling Darkspawn alongside "another knight dude and a female dwarf rogue." The alpha footage also showed a set of glitched subtitles labeled "Rook" and "Davrin."

According to revanchisto, these character models in Dragon Age: Dreadwolf's leaked gameplay appear to be placeholders. However, It does not take a massive leap to assume that Davrin is the human male warrior, whereas Rook is the name of the dwarven rogue. This seems to confirm that Davrin is a full party member rather than a secondary NPC, though fans could have assumed as much based on his voice actor's inclusion in the early behind-the-scenes video.

This also helps to narrow down his appearance, assuming that Dragon Age 4's concept art is indicative of the final character designs. Skipping to 2:18 in the Gamescom 2020 teaser shows eight characters who presumably make up the player's party, and third from the left is a human man who is either bald or has closely cropped hair. While it's impossible to say for sure, that may be Davrin standing between the Qunari woman and a tall human in the center.

There is still plenty that fans do not know about Dragon: Age Dreadwolf's new Grey Warden party member. Players may pick him up during the battle at Weisshaupt Fortress, or he may join the party beforehand, but if nothing else the picture of Davrin's role in Dragon Age: Dreadwolf should only get clearer with time.
