YouTube content creator Guy Beahm, aka Dr Disrespect, is not one to keep his opinion unvoiced. In just the past few months, the streamer has expressed discontent with the New York Times, Electronic Arts' Battlefield 2042, Apex Legends, and even YouTube itself. But Beahm’s most vocal criticisms have been reserved for Call of Duty: Warzone, one of the games that he plays most frequently on his channel.
At the end of June, Dr Disrespect shared his opinion that Respawn Entertainment’s free-to-play battle royale game Apex Legends is “just shooting shields” and boring. Complaints about Call of Duty: Warzone have been more extensive, and the YouTuber had expressed hopes that the upcoming Battlefield 2042 would usurp Warzone. Then, during Microsoft’s E3 presentation of the title, Beahm stated that he needed to lower his expectations about the game so that it could exceed them.
Now Dr Disrespect has spoken out about Call of Duty: Warzone again, this time calling out the developers themselves and saying that they “don’t know what they’re doing” and have “given up.” While using the game’s Dead Silence field upgrade, which allows players to temporarily muffle their footsteps, the YouTuber seemed to lose patience. “Nobody wants Dead Silence in the game,” he said.
Beahm went on to claim that he could fix the issues with Warzone if given the chance. “I’d fix this game just like that,” he said, snapping his fingers. One meeting with Raven Software, the developers of Warzone, would give the content creator the chance to point out “just a couple little changes, easy implementations” that would have players coming back to the game.
To some, Dr Disrespect’s insistence that he can fix Call of Duty: Warzone might seem like empty braggadocio, but the streamer does have a decade of experience with Call of Duty games, including a three-year stint as a level designer at Sledgehammer Games, a studio that worked on three titles in the franchise while Beahm worked there.
The YouTuber’s complaints about Warzone range from issues that would require small fixes to complete overhauls, covering skins, field upgrades, maps, vehicles, gameplay modes, audio design, server issues, and even a complete rework of Call of Duty: Warzone's game engine. One might think that with so many criticisms of the title, Dr Disrespect should perhaps stop playing the game. And, in fact, just a month ago the streamer asserted that he might take a break from streaming until a new game comes to the fore. “We gotta figure out new games,” he said. “We only want to put showtime material up.”
On the other hand, Dr Disrespect seemed impressed with Call of Duty Mobile when trying it out during a stream in May. The YouTuber participated in the 1980s action hero event and said he was blown away by the amount of playable content, the battle royale game mode, and how fun it was. “I think the mobile community is spoiled,” he concluded.
