During E3 2019, popular Twitch streamer Dr. Disrespect took to the IRL directory to stream his experience at the annual gaming event. While not known for IRL streams, Dr. Disrespect did his best to deliver an entertaining show that pushed boundaries in as many ways as possible. Unfortunately, a trip through the bathroom at the LA Convention Center resulted in a Twitch ban for Dr. Disrespect’s channel.

The ban only lasted for about a week, but Dr. Disrespect took additional time to presumably hype up his comeback. This week, he returned to streaming and was met with high viewer counts on the first day, and normalized numbers as time went on. As usual, the focus was on battle royale games like Fortnite, Apex Legends, and PUBG, but Dr. Disrespect also took some time to poke fun at his recent ban.

While “The Doc” is not known for leaning into the jokes and memes surrounding him, he did use the bathroom incident as an opportunity. Throughout his streams he made jokes about the dangers are venturing into bathrooms and even tried to get an emote approved that featured him peaking over the top of a stall. Unfortunately, Twitch rejected the emote, but Dr. Disrespect did get a similar emote approved a few days later.

No doubt there is going to be a debate over Dr. Disrespect poking fun at a Twitch ban. The streaming platform has had a major struggle when it comes to legitimizing the enforcement of its rules, with some streamers facing harsh punishment for a specific action while others get away with similar behavior without any repercussions.

Taping in a bathroom is not a regular occurrence in the IRL directory and so there aren’t many comparisons to be made. Guy Beahm, the real man behind the Dr. Disrespect persona, did issue an apology for the incident but some say it as insincere.

It’s certainly “on brand” for Dr. Disrespect to treat a ban in a glib manner, but as one of the biggest streamers on the platform it says a lot that he can joke about a punishment. Next week, most won’t even remember that Dr. Disrespect was banned, but we don’t expect his jokes regarding the manner to stop just yet.
