Earlier today, id Software released its long-awaited next-generation update for Doom Eternal, bringing the highly acclaimed shooter to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with ray tracing, enhanced visuals, and higher frame rates. However, Doom fans who haven't managed to pick up a next-generation platform shouldn't feel left out, as that isn't the only major slice of content launching today.

Announced earlier via id Software's social media channels, Doom Eternal: Update 6 is now available, offering players an array of free new additions to the game's single-player and multiplayer modes. Players will get extra cosmetics, a fresh Battlemode map, and even a new Master Level, letting them test their skills against an onslaught of demonic opponents.

The Master Level is likely the biggest draw of the bunch, taking players back to the capital of Argent D’Nur, Taras Nabad. Players visited the location during the latter half of Doom Eternal's story campaign, although the Master Level will be far more difficult than anything the Doom Slayer encountered during his original visit to retrieve his Crucible.

Much like other Master Levels, id Software refers to it as "an entirely new combat experience," offering players a challenge that will test their knowledge of Eternal and its various combat mechanics. Those looking for an additional layer of difficulty can even dive into the map in classic mode, which starts them out with only a combat shotgun and tasks them with finding the rest of their weapons and mods.As for the new Battlemode Map, it's titled Corrosion and drops players into a long-abandoned fortress consumed by a swamp. The area sports underground catacombs and raised platforms for the Doom Slayer to navigate as he carves his way through demon players, with id Software teasing that it offers plenty of "showdown potential" for multiplayer battles.

In terms of cosmetics, all players will get a free skin for the ballista called the Ray Tracer, which models the new ray traced reflections added in Doom Eternal's next-gen update. They'll also be able to earn a set of Teal Chrome Skins by completing challenges and earning rewards. Update 6's trailer shows off two of the skins in the set, with one suiting the Doom Slayer up in teal armor and another covering the Heavy Cannon weapon in teal plating.

The add-on also comes packed with new fixes, gameplay changes, and adjustments for Doom Eternal and Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods, which players can find by heading over to the Slayers Club website. The list is pretty exhaustive, going over everything from making tentacles easier to hit to reducing how much plasma rifle microwave beam ammo it takes to dispatch a spirit.

Doom Eternal is out now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
