Xbox Boss Addresses Doom: The Dark Ages on PS5

Phil Spencer speaks about Doom: The Dark Ages coming to the PlayStation 5, and who made this decision.

Modder Craneo has unveiled their Shield Saw mod for classic Doom, and it's impressive. It's a great visual replication of the design that maintains the esthetic of the original Doom game, and is designed to be a swap for the chainsaw in the game. The Shield Saw is fully animated, with the saw actively running around the sides of the shield when not in use.

Craneo shared a demonstration of gameplay with the Shield Saw, showing off both its defense and attack capabilities. By raising it, the player is protected from all incoming damage, either from the front or the sides and back of the player. It can also be thrown, as shown in the Doom: The Dark Ages trailer, doing damage on impact. It's also useable in close quarters, making it an extremely versatile weapon for Doomguy to use. Players accustomed to modding Doom can acquire the mod via Craneo's social media account.

Doom Fans Still Appreciate Where the Series Started

Obviously, Doom has come an incredibly long way since the series got its start. Visuals, gameplay, and internet connectivity have changed gaming dramatically since then. However, Doom 1 is still considered by many to be a classic, including Bethesda, which has periodically issued updates to classic Doom for modern systems. The modding community for Doom 1 is also clearly alive and well.

However, part of Doom's charm at this point is its incredibly low system requirements. "Can it run Doom?" has become a meme question in the community this point, as Doom has either been ported to or remade to work on just about every device possible, ranging from Apple Watches to pianos and birth control tests. While the series is looking to the future - and the past - right now, the classic that started it all is far from forgotten, and that's unlikely to change anytime soon.
