In The Constant, everything is essentially trying to kill the player. While there are amazing passive mobs that can help survival, most creatures should be considered dangerous. From Bees to Mosquitos, Hounds to Frogs, the world of Don't Starve is a terrifying place. Thankfully, there are ample resources around the different biomes to help players survive a bit longer. With defense items for gear and structures, players can make homes around the large map to protect themselves. As well as offensive gear for those that want to bring the fight to the enemy.

Players should know what to look out for though, as some mobs are easier to deal with than others. And while the multiplayer version, Don't Starve Together, has world bosses and unique mobs exclusive to that mode, there are enough mobs in the single-player version to focus on first. All of these mobs are seen in both the single and multiplayer version, so they will have slightly different stats. These are some of the hardest mobs in Don't Starve they will have to deal with.

6 Spider Queen

Considered a boss monster, this nasty arachnid has 1,250 health in the single player version, along with a hard 80 damage with each attack. She attacks by using her sharp claws and teeth to scratch and bite. She can be found near Tier 3 Spider Dens if players wander close enough, and once she is spawned, she will birth spiders every 20 seconds.

For Don't Starve Together, the Queen will give birth to spiders twice as fast, so every 10 seconds, and has a lot more health, sitting at around 2,500. But there is little difference between the two worlds besides those.

This boss monster is only active during the Winter unless the world is customized otherwise. It has high damage of 2,000 in the single player version, and 4,000 in the multiplayer one, with damage at 75 to the players. It is aggressive towards anything and can kill it easily. Unfortunately, along with it being a terrible foe, it can also drain a characters' sanity due to its terrifying appearance.

For the multiplayer version, players have a chance at seeing Deerclops during the Winter Feast, which will change its appearance to a darker theme.

This boss monster has a lot going on with its variety of sizes, and though it's considered a boss, it is a neutral creature. These mobs are formed from Evergreens when nearby evergreens are being chopped down. They are hostile at first to whoever is chopping trees, but can be pacified once players plant new trees nearby.

Depending on the size of the tree determines how much health and damage is has. The only different between these Treeguards in multiplayer is the different stats, which is not a huge difference.

3 Moose/Goose

Ability

Honks to make the player drop their weapon

Loot

6 Meat, 2 Drumstick, 3-5 Down Feather (DST: x3.6 more Down Feathers, sketch for Marble Moose/Goose statue)

Moose, also known as Goose, is one of the four giants in the Reign of Giants DLC, so players that have the multiplayer version will have it for free when purchasing the game, but Don't Starve players will need to purchase it.

There is a chance for it to spawn around 2–4 days in Spring more than three structures are built pretty close together, such as the Science Machine, Lightning Rod, Crock Pot, etc. For Don't Starve Together, there will be nesting sites of the Moose/Goose already created, and each spring there will be a chance of it being occupied.

2 Bearger

Health

3,000 (DST: 6,000)

Damage

100 to players 200 to mobs

Ability

Eats food (DST: sheds fur every 45 seconds)

Loot

8 Meat, Thick Fur (DST: sketch for Marble Bearger Statue)

Another giant within the Reign of Giants DLC, the Bearger is a strong mob that appears during Autumn looking for food. Unfortunately, the creature will grab food whether it's on the ground, or stashed away, making it an incredible nuisance. Beargers are attracted to Bee Boxes as well.

While the creature will fight over food, if players don't have any around, the Bearger will passively follow the player. When fighting, if the Bearger eats food, it will heal the giant the same amount it would heal characters. In the multiplayer version, the Bearger does not attack unless provoked.

1 Ancient Guardian

dont starve hard mobs ancient guardian

Health

2,500 (DST: 10,000)

Damage

100

Ability

Breaks through obstacles

Loot

8 Meat, Guardian's Horn, Ornate Chest (DST: Sketch for Ancient Guardian Marble Figure)

This behemoth of a creature is also considered as a boss, and rightly so as it is one of the bigger mobs in the game. For the single player version, players are a bit lucky at only having to deal with a creature that has 2,500 health but gives out a whopping 100 damage, making it a very tough mob. The Ancient Guardian can be found in the Labyrinth of the Ruins region. The creature will charge at players, similar to the Clockwork Rook, but also has an additional attack if players are in melee range.

In the multiplayer version, however, players are not that lucky. With a total amount of 10,000 health, players have a lot more work ahead of them. Along with this, players will notice that the creature has two phases, making it a more difficult opponent as it will spawn shadow tentacles, and will often slam its body on the ground.

Don't Starve Together and Don't Starve are available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
