How to Start with 50 Lives

One awesome trick, similar to the iconic Konami Code, allows players to start off with tons of more lives. Donkey Kong Country is not easy, so extra lives help.

To start out with 50 lives, players must hover over the "Erase Game" button while on the File Select screen. Then, simply press B, A, R, R, A, L, followed by selecting the file to save the progress in. Once this is done correctly, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong will have plenty of lives to try to beat King K. Rool.

Endless Lives Trick with Diddy Kong

Speaking of Diddy (who has only gained in popularity since entering Smash Bros.), and speaking of extra lives, there's another way that players can gain extra lives that doesn't involve a code input.

Players must go to Monkey Mines and head to the Milestone Mayhem level. Directly from the beginning of the level, players must move forward a bit and lure the first Krusha enemy back towards the start of the level. This part is a bit tricky, but playing as Diddy Kong only, players can jump in the air and slide down the ramp, landing on the Krusha's head. This can be done darn near infinitely, which will rack up tons of extra lives as Diddy is "juggling" himself in the air without actually killing the Krusha.

Practice Bonus Rounds from the Intro Screen

The opening sequence of Donkey Kong Country is one of the most memorable moments in gaming. The charm and secrets of DKC are what make it one of the best Donkey Kong games. Some of the most fun of the game are the bonus rounds, and there is a way to play them endlessly and practice them.

While the Intro Screen is playing, simply press Down, Y, Down, Down, Y. Just like that, the bonus rounds are playable.

Additional Cheat Codes

The Bad Buddy Code allows players to freely switch between two players. To pull this off,  highlight the "Erase Data" button from the File Select screen. Then press B, A, Down, B, Up, Down, Down, Y, A.

Donkey Kong games have some of the best Nintendo music. There is a Music Test that can be unlocked by highlighting the "Erase Date" button from the File Select screen and pressing Down, A, R, B, Y, Down, A, Y, Select.
