  • Developer Larian Studios confirms that a new Divinity game is in the works, but it won't be released anytime soon.
  • Fans of the Divinity franchise will have plenty to enjoy in the meantime with the highly anticipated Baldur's Gate 3.

Developer Larian Studios has confirmed that another Divinity game is on the way at some point. Larian Studios has been hard at work on the full release of Baldur's Gate 3, after years of early access for the game.

When it was first released, Divinity: Original Sin 2 was one of the most critically acclaimed RPGs ever made, and put Larian Studios in pole position for being handed the keys to the Baldur's Gate franchise. It seems like a perfect fit, and the hype continues to build for Baldur's Gate 3 for its fast-approaching release date. Baldur's Gate 3 has changed plenty over its Early Access period, but with only Act One playable at the moment, there will be plenty of new content for even the most experienced of players to take part in.

The news comes from an interview with IGN, where Larian Studios founder Swen Vincke confirmed that the developer is "definitely gonna get back there at some point," referring to the world of Divinity. However, it won't be coming anytime soon. In the interview, Vincke stated that the studio will be taking a break after the release of Baldur's Gate 3 to "refresh ourselves creatively." Given the studio has barely had a moment of pause since the release of Divinity: Original Sin 2, it's safe to say it's a break that is well-earned.

With how Baldur's Gate 3 is shaping up ahead of its release, the news will be massively welcomed by fans of the Divinity franchise. No developer is making CRPGs like Larian Studios at the moment, and it shows in the remarkable detail of each release. Even though a new Divinity title is confirmed, it will likely be some time before it actually comes to fruition. Fans of Larian Studios have plenty to digest in the meantime - Baldur's Gate 3 has over 17,000 ending variations, so gamers won't be lost for content while they wait for a Divinity sequel.

After the news that Divinity: Fallen Heroes was put on hold a while back, it's reassuring to know that series will be making a return in the future. Although players are hyped for Baldur's Gate 3, there's still a lot that Divinity: Original Sin 2 can offer both new and returning players. For example, there remains a massive amount of Divinity: Original Sin 2 mods to check out. Hopefully, the dedicated community continues to improve the game, even after the release of Baldur's Gate 3.
