There are a lot of different game modes in Disney Speedstorm, and it can actually get somewhat confusing at first. One of the staples of many games in the Kart-racing genre is competitive multiplayer, but players will find the competitive multiplayer option greyed out when they first load up the game. In order to race against other players around the world, players will first need to unlock multiplayer by playing other game modes, to be more specific, they must complete some of the game's Starter Circuit.

At the very beginning of Disney Speedstorm, players have access to the Starter Circuit, Freeplay, and Private Tracks. It's a lot of fun to get swept up in Freeplay races with friends via split-screen or by using Private Tracks to play with other friends online, but that won't get players any closer to unlocking Competitive Multiplayer.

How to Unlock Competitive Multiplayer in Disney Speedstorm

In order to unlock Competitive Multiplayer modes like Ranked Multiplayer and Regulated Multiplayer, racers must first beat Chapter 1 Node 3 of the Starter Circuit, called Tunnel Chase. To play this mission, players must have Mickey Mouse leveled up to at least level two, and to progress past it, players will need to complete at least one of the three Race Goals. In this case, that means they must either reach the top three or drift for a total of one second. Doing either of these things will allow players to move onward to the next node which unlocks Competitive Multiplayer.

Competitive Multiplayer Modes in Disney Speedstorm

With Competitive Multiplayer unlocked, players can now access two new modes in Disney Speedstorm: Ranked Multiplayer and Regulated Multiplayer. Ranked Multiplayer allows players to race against others online in order to increase their rank. Winning races earns players Score Points which then translate to ranking up and earning MP Coins. Regulated Multiplayer is more skill-based, as all racers are automatically set to the same level and star rarity, meaning everyone is on equal ground. Rather than ranking up, racers earn Regulated Multiplayer Points when they perform well in a race. Enough of these will translate into new cosmetics and MP Coins.

That's all there is to unlocking and playing in Competitive Multiplayer modes. Players should unlock this mode early on and will be able to test their skills against other players. Regulated Multiplayer is a great way to get used to playing online with others before diving into the Ranked Multiplayer matches.

Disney Speedstorm is in early access now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
