One of the reasons Star Wars remains as popular as it is is because of its pretty solid outpouring of games over the past few years. Disney seems to understand the importance of Star Wars video games, as it is teasing an annoncement about them for this December.

Ever since the 80s, Star Wars video games made up a cornerstone of the property, from the original Super Star Wars on the SNES, to the much beloved Star Wars Jedi Knight series of the 90s and early 2000s, to most recently, the excellent Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order. Many of these games have been considered just as important to the Star Wars canon and fanbase as the films and TV shows, especially the older games, as they were responsible for expanding the world before Disney bought LucasFilm in 2012. It took some time for Disney to start really producing Star Wars video games, but fans are currently getting a pretty good serving of content with a confirmed five games in development.

Disney is teasing a Star Wars video game announcement for December 2021. Today starts Star Wars' latest merchandise push, known as "Bring Home The Bounty," where every Tuesday through the rest of the year, new Star Wars products will be revealed. The website provides a roadmap for every week, featuring icons representing what that week's products might be related to, with the week of December 14 having a game controller. Recently there have been rumors that Quantic Dream is working on a Star Wars game, as well one centered on The Mandalorian.

This announcement can really be anything, with practically every Star Wars story being open for video game potential. According to the article, "Expect reveals of new items inspired by everything from The Book of Boba Fett, (...) and The Mandalorian to classics like the Skywalker saga films, animated series including Star Wars: The Bad Batch and Star Wars: Visions, and much more." Part of this movement is also to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of LucasFilm, with Paul Southern, the Senior Vice President at Lucasfilm, saying, "We wanted to find a way to celebrate all of our beloved characters and stories from the classic to the new and everything in-between."

Many people's reaction to this may be of worry, as there are currently a lot of Star Wars games in development. With so many titles being worked on right now, there is a fear of the series becoming bloated with releases and perhaps quickly fatigued. However, there is another crowd that believes that more Star Wars games would be a good thing, especially where the content so far seems quite varied between experiences. From Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, the Knights of the Old Republic Remake, Star Wars Hunters, and many others, there is certainly other Star Wars stories to tell and games to be made.
