Disney has been a staple of the video game industry since its early days, with the media juggernaut using its wide library of franchises to provide a plethora of different titles. Disney has its hands on some of the most popular franchises in gaming between its own properties and collaborations like Square-Enix's popular Kingdom Hearts franchise. Disney's wide cast of iconic characters have seen plenty of unique titles throughout the years and one of their most recent titles is getting an upgraded version later this year.

Disney first released Disney Magical World 2 in October of 2016 on the Nintendo 3DS. The life simulation game developed by Bandai Namco lets players interact and play mini-games with iconic Disney characters. The game's original release featured worlds from classic Disney franchises like The Little Mermaid, Peter Pan, and Frozen among others for players to explore. During a recent Nintendo Direct, Nintendo officially announced that the game would be receiving an enhanced version on the Nintendo Switch.

Bandai Namco and Nintendo officially announced during Thursday's Nintendo Direct that Disney Magical World 2: Enhanced Edition would be coming to the Switch later this year. The trailer showed off several different worlds based on popular Disney franchises like Lilo & Stitch and Beauty and the Beast. Players will be able to customize their outfits with many based on the franchises featured in the game along with designing their in-game houses. The trailer also announced that all DLC released for the original game would be included with the Enchanted Edition release.

Disney franchises have long been a staple of the gaming world with classic titles like Aladdin and The Lion King on SNES being some of the console's most popular titles. The company typically licenses out their franchises for use by other developers in the case of the previously-mentioned Kingdom Hearts. Disney's acquisition of major media juggernauts like LucasArts and Marvel has given the massive conglomerate access to even more iconic gaming franchises.

Recent years have seen the already huge Disney expanding their operations into several new outlets to push their iconic franchises. The launch of Disney+, the company's devoted streaming service, was a major success for the company and Marvel continues to dominate the box office with successful films like Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Black Widow. The breadth of content under the Disney umbrella seems to get larger by the year, but titles like Disney Magical World 2 show the company continues to embrace its animated roots.

Disney Magical World 2: Enchanted Edition is scheduled to release in Holiday 2021 for the Nintendo Switch.
