Disney Lorcana revealed its newest card featuring Rapunzel from the animated movie Tangled. The much-awaited trading card game gives players the role of Illumineer, a powerful sorcerer tasked to recruit Disney characters from "The Great Illuminary."
On August 18, Disney Lorcana will launch its first series, called The First Chapter, which will feature Disney characters like Mickey Mouse and Frozen's Olaf. The drop will include options such as starter packs, booster packs, a special Illumineer's Trove, and a gift pack with rare Mulan and Hades cards.
With less than two months to go before The First Chapter comes out, Disney Lorcana revealed one of the cards that will be included in the set: Rapunzel, Letting Down Her Hair. Disney Lorcana brand manager and co-designer Ryan Miller confirmed the news in a short video on The Gamer, where he unveiled a card showing Rapunzel using her long, golden hair as a lasso. It will be a six-cost Ruby ink card with 5 Strength and 4 Willpower, and the ability to take away one Lore from each player in the game.
Over on Twitter, many TCG fans praised the art of the Rapunzel card. Some also noted that the card would go well with the previously-revealed Aladdin, Heroic Outlaw card from Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter, which also has the ability to take away opponents' Lore. According to expectant Disney Lorcana players, these cards would be great for mid to late game as they prevent opponents from reaching 20 Lore to win.
As early as now, many TCG players have started studying Disney Lorcana's mechanics, and already building practice decks and sharing them on YouTube. The dedication seems to be a sign that Disney Lorcana would become a viable competitive card game in the future. Players will also be able to improve their decks further once Disney Lorcana Set 2 comes out in November.
Amid the excitement, Disney Lorcana also faced some challenges after its publisher, Ravensburger was accused of copying another TCG's design and mechanics. Upper Deck filed a lawsuit against Ravensburger, alleging that its ex-employee Miller stole the design for Rush of Ikorr to create DisneyLorcana. The company also sought an injunction to delay the Disney TCG's release. Despite this, Ravensburger still seemed determined to release The First Chapter in August as it stood by its design team's originality while working on Disney Lorcana and calling Upper Deck's accusations "baseless." As of writing, there weren't any updates yet on the lawsuit.
